A Symbol of the Times
Henrik Ibsen masterfully uses symbolism to add depth and meaning to his play A Doll s House. The
story is about a housewife named Nora who gets into trouble when she forges her father s name to
borrow money for her husband s sake. Many objects take on new meaning in this story, from the
Christmas tree in the opening scene to the slammed door at the end. Ibsen uses Nora as symbol
representing how many women in that time period were treated like objects. The literal meaning of
this engaging, but the use of symbolism is what makes it a truly powerful story.
The Helmers live in nineteenth century Norway. The opening scene is set during the Christmas season,
in the apartment of a somewhat average family where Nora and Torvald are married with three kids.

the formula to success. In contrast to his theories of success, Ms. Michiko Kakutani calls his book
clumsy and weak and claims it doesn t present an idea of success that appeals to everyone. I agree
with Michiko Kakutani; her statements seemed very accurate, strong, and detailed. Malcolm Gladwell
s book was chock full of generalizations that were made based on one particular group or person. She

Ms. Kakutani stresses how Gladwell tries to extrapolate his observations into hypotheses about

A revolution is something that s very common in history of any country. The only thing that separates
a Revolution is the difference in reason and purpose of settling a dispute between either a country or a
city. In Russian History there was a revolution that set a new standard of fighting for a new rule. This

They believe in only one God and that Muhammad is the last prophet of Allah and that he is the seal
of the prophets. In Islam they believe that Jesus is one of the 28 prophets. Muslims go by the Qur an
