                   Analysis of a Film Extract
How to get a high grade
The title must name the feature or
features that are the particular focus, e.g.
An analysis of editing and sound in the
          shower sequence from Psycho
          (Hitchcock, 1960).
You also need to name the director and the year of production.

You can write Thematically (one aspect at a time, e.g.
lighting, costume, etc.) or Chronologically (in the order
          of appearance in the sequence)

Just pick one and stick to it!
Look on the back of the Assignment brief to
see what a grade A is marked on.

Provide detail – don’t miss out significant shots, aspects
          of mise-en-scene etc

Provide images to back up what you're saying. E.g. if there
is a significant camera shot that impacts on the scene,
          show it!
AS Film November 25, 2012

                    Examples of effective writing
      A wide shot reveals….

A wide shot of a ……… connotes that.....

The camera gives us a wide shot of......suggesting.......

We cut to a shot of.....

We cut to a scene where....

Things you need to try to put think about
                              before you write.

                                    ?
How does the Why do I find the
            sequence message(s) contained
move me in the extract so
           emotionally? powerful?

       How does this
sequence create Why do I identify
         suspense/ strongly with a
      excitement/fear/ What is happening particular
anxiety, etc? to me as I watch character?
                                        this?
