The College of Education contributes to

of education, and dedicates itself to

contexts. We facilitate engaged learning
and ethical leadership in schools and
clinical settings. We seek collaboration

South Puget Sound?
• WSU is a research university—one of two in Washington State
• WSU is Washington’s only land grant institution
• WSU Educational Leadership program is a field-based scholar-practitioner
model
• WSU South Puget Sound is a branch of Vancouver and part of a state-
wide system that networks students, programs, and faculty
• WSU South Puget Sound is a 2 year program (two years of course work and a
one year internship during your 2nd year), with time for reflection, learning, and
leadership opportunities/experiences
• WSU South Puget Sound program is family friendly with classes taught on
weeknights, not on weekends or summers (courses required for EdM are
taught only during summer sessions
• “Cougar Culture!”
• WSU program costs less than most other programs
• WSU program is taught by practitioners with
Doctorates in Educational Leadership
• Over 50% of the school superintendents in
Washington state are Cougars (networking)
• Over 210 educational leaders in SW Washington,
other areas of Washington State and elsewhere

• A school or program administrator is an educational leader who has the
knowledge, skills, and cultural competence to improve learning and
achievement to ensure the success of each student by leading the
development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of
learning that is shared and supported by school/program and community.

of the organization, operations, and resources for a safe, efficient, and
effective learning environment.

(Sweeting Thursday 2nd Semester)
• A school or program administrator is an educational leader who has the
knowledge, skill, and cultural competence to improve learning and
achievement to ensure the success of each student by understanding,
responding to, and influencing the larger political, social, economic, legal, and
cultural context.

STANDARD TWO: Instructional Improvement
(Baxter Wednesday 1st Semester)
• A school or program administrator is an educational leader who has the
knowledge, skills, and cultural competence to improve learning and
achievement to ensure the success of each student by leading through
advocating, nurturing, and sustaining district/school/program cultures and
coherent instructional programs that are conducive to student learning and
staff professional growth.
STANDARD FOUR: Inclusive Practice
(Eveskcige Wednesday 2nd Semester)
• A school or program administrator is an educational leader who has the
knowledge, skills, and cultural competence to improve learning and
achievement to ensure the success of each student by collaborating with
families and community members, responding to diverse community
interests and needs, and mobilizing community resources.
