In the word  equivalent there is the root word equal 3 4 6 8
Fractions which are said to be  equivalent  are  equal  to each other. 3 4 6 8
For example 1 2 2 4
So if you were given  2 quarters  of a cake and your friend was given  half  a cake would you both have the same amount? 1 2 2 4
