This document defines different yarn count systems and provides examples of calculating yarn counts. There are two main types of yarn count systems: direct and indirect. Direct systems express count as weight per unit length, so higher counts mean coarser yarns. Indirect systems express count as length per unit weight, so higher counts mean finer yarns. Common count systems discussed are tex, decitex, denier, English cotton count, and metric count. Exercises are provided to demonstrate calculating yarn counts using different systems.
