HKBU has an open access policy where theses are uploaded to the institutional repository within 1-1.5 years of completion. Students have the option to embargo access to the full text for an additional year. Submission to ProQuest, an external repository, takes even longer but allows for wider visibility, HKBU covers publishing costs, and students retain copyright. The submission to ProQuest is voluntary and only requires a signed agreement, with most other form fields also being optional.

- 9. The rest of the form is voluntary info, or irrelevant to Hong Kong such as: • Register address for royalty payments • Submit payment for copyright (HKBU states you own copyright) • Enter subject info to enhance searchibility
- 10. Most important: your submission to ProQuest is voluntary If you do not wish to submit your work, merely omit your signature HKBU cannot submit your thesis to ProQuest without a signed agreement form
