

Online learning opportunities and interactive Web 2.0 has
provided language learners possibilities in creating s real world
language environment in the classroom. A video sharing website
where users can upload, view and share video clips, Youtube is
one of the greatest things Web 2.0 offering us. (Lacy,2008)
YouTube is a compound noun of “you” and “tube”, in which
“Tube” is American slang language means television, so YouTube
would mean something like a "TV in your hands






Three former PayPal employees(Chad Hurley, Steve
Chen and Jawed Karim) created Youtube in February
2005.
In November 2006, Youtube was brought by Google
Inc. For US $1.65 billion and is now operated as a
subsdiary of Google.
The company is in ,San Bruno, California and uses
Adobe Flash Video technology to display a wide
variety of user-generated video content.




Most of the content on Youtube are movie clips, TV
clips, music videos, as well as amateur contents such as
video bloggings and short original videos.
These has been uploaded by individuals although
media corporations including CBS and BBC and other
organizations offer some of their materials via the site.





Unregistered users can watch the videos, while
registered users are permitted to upload an unlimited
number of videos.
Accounts of registered users are called as “channels”.
There are, on avarege, more than 65.000 uploads and
100 million videos being watched daily, with 30 million
visitors per month, it is the fourthmost visited website
in the web (Lacy,2008)






As far as language learning is concerned, Youtube is an
unlimited source for language acquisition.
To illustrate, one can listen to all kinds of spoken
language(formal, neutral, informal) and genres(songs,
parodies, debates, political speeches, talk shows,
lectures) and learn a lot of vocabulary in context, which
will help memorize easily.
The program can be paused to check understanding,
invite students’ comments, make predictions or let
students ask questions as potential investors






Language learning is much more than classroom
experience. Out-of-class experiences occupy a key role
in offering vast range of possibilities to L2 learners.
Youtube gives students control over the section of
materials and over the strategies to use, and independent action.
Therefore, it plays pivot role in practicing the target
language, engaging students in active and productive
projects, preparing them for likely future
encounters, learning more about cultures and poising
than for becoming autonomous learners. (Mc
Bride,2009)


Also, language teachers can take advantage of
Youtube in their classrooms to make the
learning process more meaningful, more fun
and more independent. Otherhand, students
feel as if they were in front of a teacher.












There are different styles and genres of the language
available on Youtube.
You can be exposed to music, commercials, ads, comedy
sketches, conferences and programmes.
Youtube can help learners explore the target culture in a
variety of ways.
Youtube encourages students to watch videos and clips
continuously.
Also displaying Tv shows are authentic language whichis
valuable for vocabulary and grammar retention.
Youtube gives alternatives to students with different
