Zen internship
- 1. MY UNCONVENTIONAL INTERNSHIP My time with ZenGenius
- 2. GETTING MY START I got my start at ZenGenius in 2011 . I was referred to them through an acquaintance that did work with their company, so I submitted an application and was called in for an interview soon after. I was brought on as a freelancer in April of 2011 .
- 3. AS A FREELANCER I really enjoyed my time as a freelancer. The work schedule was extremely flexible, which was great for me as a college student with very inconsistent availability. The work varied quite a bit, which I really enjoyed. One week I’d be setting up for a clam bake at the Memorial Tournament, the next I’d be tearing down for a wedding.
- 4. BIG CLIENTS I often worked with Victoria’s Secret at their head of fice and distribution center. I was pretty regularly called to help set up displays for them for special events or help them around the mock store. I was even tasked with managing the deconstruction of their Easton store when they were moving to a new space.
- 5. AS AN INTERN After being with Zen for about a year I inquired about an internship opportunity. They brought me on almost immediately. I was a contributing member of the company! I got an opportunity to see how a visual design works, and it was quite fascinating. I gained a lot of clerical and managerial experience that I wouldn’t have gained as a freelancer. I regularly helped sort and enter financial information as well as did inventory work. It was a real growing experience and I was happy to have the opportunity.
- 6. ALL IN ALL I really appreciate everything that everyone at Zen has done for me. This includes Joe Baer and Paul Cook, the presidents of the company, as well at Rickelle Viney and Matt Ungar who where always very kind and willing to help me out and answer any questions I had. I call this experience unconventional in the fact that it doesn’t fall into what you might call a “construction related” type of internship, but I gained a lot from my time at Zen and have grown professionally.
