The Canadian Music Centre is an organization that promotes and distributes classical music by Canadian composers. It houses archival collections, operates a library, publishes scores, and distributes recordings through its Centrediscs label. While traditional music distribution was limited to three major channels, new technologies now provide more freedom and opportunities through online distribution channels like podcasts, streaming audio, and digital downloads. However, this has also presented challenges for organizations to adapt their business models and strategies to fully utilize new distribution methods and develop comprehensive approaches that move beyond just availability to appreciation and commercial success.
