Get the Parents Involved Here are tips for helping your kids use social networking sites safely: Help your kids understand what information should be private. Explain that kids should post only information that you – and they – are comfortable with others seeing. Use privacy settings to restrict who can access and post on your child's website. Remind your kids that once they post information online, they can't take it back. Talk to your kids about avoiding sex talk online. Tell your kids to trust their gut if they have suspicions. If they ever feel uncomfortable or threatened by anything online, encourage them to tell you. Sldeshow outline

It has been said that an astonishing 96% of students with online capabilities have used bloggs, text messaged, used online communities and have chatted. This presentation will introduce you to some of the examples of online communities and how they can be used in educations. Such communities are Facebook, Myspace and Classroom 2.0

There are so many online communities that join Facebook to have a discussion. It’s a really easy thing to do. You can have your students be identified as “friends” and only allow then to join your group. Facebook allows for teacher to join comminities such as teacher TV and gives education opportunities for students to show school spirit through Facebook sports

Script : Students, tutors and researchers each get a profile page, a blog, photo sharing and friends lists, and they can create and join on-site discussion communities. Some of these features might cause tutors to balk, but Elgg's creators say the collaborative, conversational exchanges in which today's students have become so fluent outside class are the best way to deliver learning inside it. While most places are outlawing these social networking sitees. Some institutions are putting them into the curriculum and teachers are saying thank you! Not only does it children to keep in touch with friend that have moved away, but could also be used to have pen pals from another country. Later on in life it will allow then to make work connections and get timely feedback on ideas or thought that they might have. Social networking also provided students to see multiple points of view on a subject while having a discussion with other students.

Sitting in front of a computer is no way to gain friendships, they believe. Other than the online communities that they belong to, they have no social interactions with people face-to –face. After Instant Messaging can be interpreted anyway. There are also a wide variety of Internet predators lurking. We need to teach our children to be safe of on these Social Networking sites. That’s where we get the parents involved.
