The Scrum Master: A True Leader Who Serves

Many people online claim that “Agile is a mindset”, and that the mindset is more important than the framework. But let us be honest, the term “agile mindset” is very abstract. How do we know someone truly has it? We cannot open their brain to check. Mindset manifests in different behaviour depending on culture and context. In one place, “commitment” might mean fixed scope and fixed time. In another, it might mean working long hours. In yet another, it could mean delivering excellence within reasonable hours. Because of this complexity, simply saying “agile is a mindset” is not enough. What works better is modelling the behaviour. When people consistently observe the Scrum Master demonstrating agility, those behaviours can become habits. ... Some Scrum Masters and agile coaches believe their job is to coach exclusively, asking questions without ever offering answers. While coaching is valuable, relying on it alone can be harmful if it is not relevant or contextual. Relevance is key to improving team effectiveness. At times, the Scrum Master needs to get their hands dirty. If a team has struggled with manual regression testing for twenty Sprints, do not just tell them to adopt Test-Driven Development (TDD). Show them. ... To be a true leader, the Scrum Master must be humble and authentic. You cannot fake true leadership. It requires internal transformation, a shift in character. As the saying goes, “Character is who we are when no one is watching.”


Vendors Align IAM, IGA and PAM for Identity Convergence

The historic separation of IGA, PAM and IAM created inefficiencies and security blind spots, and attackers exploited inconsistencies in policy enforcement across layers, said Gil Rapaport, chief solutions officer at CyberArk. By combining governance, access and privilege in a single platform, the company could close the gaps between policy enforcement and detection, Rapaport said. "We noticed those siloed markets creating inefficiency in really protecting those identities, because you need to manage different type of policies for governance of those identities and for securing the identities and for the authentication of those identities, and so on," Rapaport told ISMG. "The cracks between those silos - this is exactly where the new attack factors started to develop." ... Enterprise customers that rely on different tools for IGA, PAM, IAM, cloud entitlements and data governance are increasingly frustrated because integrating those tools is time-consuming and error-prone, Mudra said. Converged platforms reduce integration overhead and allow vendors to build tools that communicate natively and share risk signals, he said. "If you have these tools in silos, yes, they can all do different things, but you have to integrate them after the fact versus a converged platform comes with out-of-the-box integration," Mudra said. "So, these different tools can share context and signals out of the box."

From terabytes to insights: Real-world AI obervability architecture

The challenge is not only the data volume, but the data fragmentation. According to New Relic’s 2023 Observability Forecast Report, 50% of organizations report siloed telemetry data, with only 33% achieving a unified view across metrics, logs and traces. Logs tell one part of the story, metrics another, traces yet another. Without a consistent thread of context, engineers are forced into manual correlation, relying on intuition, tribal knowledge and tedious detective work during incidents. ... MCP explained: The AI gamechanger

Instead of relying on scattered prompts, developers can now define and deliver context dynamically, making integrations faster, more accurate, and easier to maintain. By decoupling context from prompts and managing it like any other component, developers can, in effect, build their own personal, multi-layered prompt interface. This transforms AI from a black box into an integrated part of your tech stack. ... MCP is important because it extends this principle to AI by treating context as a modular, API-driven component that can be integrated wherever needed. Similar to microservices or headless frontends, this approach allows AI functionality to be composed and embedded flexibly across various layers of the tech stack without creating tight dependencies. The result is greater flexibility, enhanced reusability, faster iteration in distributed systems and true scalability. ... As with any exciting disruption, the opportunity offered by MCP comes with its own set of challenges. Chief among them is poorly defined context. One of the most common mistakes is hardcoding static values — instead, context should be dynamic and reflect real-time system states. Overloading the model with too much, too little or irrelevant data is another pitfall, often leading to degraded performance and unpredictable outputs. 


AI is fueling a power surge - it could also reinvent the grid

Data centers themselves are beginning to evolve as well. Some forward-looking facilities are now being designed with built-in flexibility to contribute back to the grid or operate independently during times of peak stress. These new models, combined with improved efficiency standards and smarter site selection strategies, have the potential to ease some of the pressure being placed on energy systems. Equally important is the role of cross-sector collaboration. As the line between tech and infrastructure continues to blur, it’s critical that policymakers, engineers, utilities, and technology providers work together to shape the standards and policies that will govern this transition. That means not only building new systems, but also rethinking regulatory frameworks and investment strategies to prioritize resiliency, equity, and sustainability. Just as important as technological progress is public understanding. Educating communities about how AI interacts with infrastructure can help build the support needed to scale promising innovations. Transparency around how energy is generated, distributed, and consumed—and how AI fits into that equation—will be crucial to building trust and encouraging participation. ... To be clear, AI is not a silver bullet. It won’t replace the need for new investment or hard policy choices. But it can make our systems smarter, more adaptive, and ultimately more sustainable.


AI vs Technical Debt: Is This A Race to the Bottom?

Critically, AI-generated code can carry security liabilities. One alarming study analyzed code suggested by GitHub Copilot across common security scenarios – the result: roughly 40% of Copilot’s suggestions had vulnerabilities. These included classic mistakes like buffer overflows and SQL injection holes. Why so high? The AI was trained on tons of public code – including insecure code – so it can regurgitate bad practices (like using outdated encryption or ignoring input sanitization) just as easily as good ones. If you blindly accept such output, you’re effectively inviting known bugs into your codebase. It doesn’t help that AI is notoriously bad at certain logical tasks (for example, it struggles with complex math or subtle state logic, so it might write code that looks legit but is wrong in edge cases. ... In many cases, devs aren’t reviewing AI-written code as rigorously as their own, and a common refrain when something breaks is, “It is not my code,” implying they feel less responsible since the AI wrote it. That attitude itself is dangerous, if nobody feels accountable for the AI’s code, it slips through code reviews or testing more easily, leading to more bad deployments. The open-source world is also grappling with an influx of AI-generated “contributions” that maintainers describe as low-quality or even spam. Imagine running an open-source project and suddenly getting dozens of auto-generated pull requests that technically add a feature or fix but are riddled with style issues or bugs.

Process digital twins are often confused with traditional simulation tools, but there is an important distinction. Simulations are typically offline models used to test “what-if” scenarios, verify system behaviour, and optimise processes without impacting live operations. These models are predefined and rely on human input to set parameters and ask the right questions. A digital twin, on the other hand, comes to life when connected to real-time operational data. It reflects current system states, responds to live inputs, and evolves continuously as conditions change. This distinction between static simulation and dynamic digital twin is widely recognised across the industrial sector. It assesses the likelihood of failure, evaluates the potential downstream impact, and proposes mitigation strategies, such as rerouting power or triggering maintenance workflows.

Today’s hybrid models involve more than merging public clouds with private data centers. They also involve specialized data center solutions like colocation, edge facilities and bare-metal-as-a-service (BMaaS) offerings. We need safeguards so that if an agent calls the wrong API, it’s obvious to the person overseeing that task that the response or outcome is unreasonable or doesn’t make sense.” These orchestration and observability layers will be increasingly important as agents are implemented across the business. “As different parts of the organization [automate] manual processes, you can quickly end up with a patchwork-quilt architecture that becomes almost impossible to upgrade or rethink,” says Elliott.

Why tomorrow’s best devs won’t just code — they’ll curate, coordinate and command AI

It is not just about writing code anymore — it is about understanding systems, structuring problems and working alongside AI like a team member. That is a tall order. That said, I do believe that there is a way forward. It starts by changing the way we learn. If you are just starting out, avoid relying on AI to get things done. It is tempting, sure, but in the long run, it is also harmful. If you skip the manual practice, you are missing out on building a deeper understanding of how software really works. That understanding is critical if you want to grow into the kind of developer who can lead, architect and guide AI instead of being replaced by it. ... AI-augmented developers will replace large teams that used to be necessary to move a project forward. In terms of efficiency, there is a lot to celebrate about this change — reduced communication time, faster results and higher bars for what one person can realistically accomplish. But, of course, this does not mean teams will disappear altogether. It is just that the structure will change. ... Being technically fluent will still remain a crucial requirement — but it won’t be enough to simply know how to code. You will need to understand product thinking, user needs and how to manage AI’s output. It will be more about system design and strategic vision. For some, this may sound intimidating, but for others, it will also open many doors. People with creativity and a knack for problem-solving will have huge opportunities ahead of them.

These jobs face the highest risk of AI takeover, according to Microsoft

According to the report -- which has yet to be peer-reviewed -- the most at-risk jobs are those that are based on the gathering, synthesis, and communication of information, at which modern generative AI systems excel: think translators, sales and customer service reps, writers and journalists, and political scientists. The most secure jobs, on the other hand, are supposedly those that depend more on physical labor and interpersonal skills. No AI is going to replace phlebotomists, embalmers, or massage therapists anytime soon. ... "It is tempting to conclude that occupations that have high overlap with activities AI performs will be automated and thus experience job or wage loss, and that occupations with activities AI assists with will be augmented and raise wages," the Microsoft researchers note in their report. "This would be a mistake, as our data do not include the downstream business impacts of new technology, which are very hard to predict and often counterintuitive." The report also echoes what's become something of a mantra among the biggest tech companies as they ramp up their AI efforts: that even though AI will replace or radically transform many jobs, it will also create new ones. ... It's possible that AI could play a role in helping people practice that skill. About one in three Americans are already using the technology to help them navigate a shift in their career, a recent study found.


AIBOMs are the new SBOMs: The missing link in AI risk management

AIBOMs follow the same formats as traditional SBOMs, but contain AI-specific content and metadata, like model family, acceptable usage, AI-specific licenses, etc. If you are a security leader at a large defense contractor, you’d need the ability to identify model developers and their country of origin. This would ensure you are not utilizing models originating from near-peer adversary countries, such as China. ... The first step is inventorying their AI. Utilize AIBOMs to inventory your AI dependencies, monitor what is approved vs. requested vs. denied, and ensure you have an understanding of what is deployed where. The second is to actively seek out AI, rather than waiting for employees to discover it. Organizations need capabilities to identify AI in code and automatically generate resulting AIBOMs. This should be integrated as part of the MLOps pipeline to generate AIBOMs and automatically surface new AI usage as it occurs. The third is to develop and adopt responsible AI policies. Some of them are fairly common-sense: no contributors from OFAC countries, no copylefted licenses, no usage of models without a three-month track record on HuggingFace, and no usage of models over a year old without updates. Then, enforce those policies in an automated and scalable system. The key is moving from reactive discovery to proactive monitoring.


2026 Budgets: What’s on Top of CIOs’ Lists (and What Should Be)

CIO shops are becoming outcome-based, which makes them accountable for what they’re delivering against the value potential, not how many hours were burned. “The biggest challenge seems to be changing every day, but I think it’s going to be all about balancing long-term vision with near-term execution,” says Sudeep George, CTO at software-delivered AI data company iMerit. “Frankly, nobody has a very good idea of what's going to happen in 2026, so everyone's placing bets,” he continues. “This unpredictability is going to be the nature of the beast, and we have to be ready for that.” ... “Reducing the amount of tech debt will always continue to be a focus for my organization,” says Calleja-Matsko. “We’re constantly looking at re-evaluating contracts, terms, [and] whether we have overlapping business capabilities that are being addressed by multiple tools that we have. It's rationalizing, she adds, and what that does is free up investment. How is this vendor pricing its offering? How do we make sure we include enough in our budget based on that pricing model? “That’s my challenge,” Calleja-Matsko emphasizes. Talent is top of mind for 2026, both in terms of attracting it and retaining it. Ultimately though, AI investments are enabling the company to spend more time with customers.

Colo space crunch could cripple IT expansion projects

For enterprise IT execs who already have a lot on their plates, the lack of available colocation space represents yet another headache to deal with, and one with major implications. Nobody wants to have to explain to the CIO or the board of directors that the company can’t proceed with digitization efforts or AI projects because there’s no space to put the servers. IT execs need to start the planning process now to get ahead of the problem. ... Demand has outstripped supply due to multiple factors, according to Pat Lynch, executive managing director at CBRE Data Center Solutions. “AI is definitely part of the demand scenario that we see in the market, but we also see growing demand from enterprise clients for raw compute power that companies are using in all aspects of their business.” ... It’s not GPU chip shortages that are slowing down new construction of data centers; it’s power. When a hyperscaler, colo operator or enterprise starts looking for a location to build a data center, the first thing they need is a commitment from the utility company for the required megawattage. According to a McKinsey study, data centers are consuming more power due to the proliferation of the power-hungry GPUs required for AI. Ten years ago, a 30 MW data center was considered large. Today, a 200 MW facility is considered normal.

AppGen: A Software Development Revolution That Won't Happen

There's no denying that AI dramatically changes the way coders work. Generative AI tools can substantially speed up the process of writing code. Agentic AI can help automate aspects of the SDLC, like integrating and deploying code. ... Even when AI generates and manages code, an understanding of concepts like the differences between programming languages or how to mitigate software security risks is likely to spell the difference between the ability to create apps that actually work well and those that are disasters from a performance, security, and maintainability standpoint. ... NoOps — short for "no IT operations" — theoretically heralded a world in which IT automation solutions were becoming so advanced that there would soon no longer be a need for traditional IT operations at all. Incidentally, NoOps, like AppGen, was first promoted by a Forrester analyst. He predicted that, "using cloud infrastructure-as-a-service and platform-as-a-service to get the resources they need when they need them," developers would be able to automate infrastructure provisioning and management so completely that traditional IT operations would disappear. That never happened, of course. Automation technology has certainly streamlined IT operations and infrastructure management in many ways. But it has hardly rendered IT operations teams unnecessary.


Middle managers aren’t OK — and Gen Z isn’t the problem: CPO Vikrant Kaushal

One of the most common pain points? Mismatched expectations. “Gen Z wants transparency—they want to know the 'why' behind decisions,” Kaushal explains. That means decisions around promotions, performance feedback, or even task allocation need to come with context. At the same time, Gen Z thrives on real-time feedback. What might seem like an eager question to them can feel like pushback to a manager conditioned by hierarchies. Add in Gen Z’s openness about mental health and wellbeing, and many managers find themselves ill-equipped for conversations they’ve never been trained to have. ... There is a growing cultural narrative that managers must be mentors, coaches, culture carriers, and counsellors—all while delivering on business targets. Kaushal doesn’t buy it. “We’re burning people out by expecting them to be everything to everyone,” he says. Real-world vulnerabilities often span multiple files or functions. Many existing models struggle with this because they are limited by how much context they can process at once. In contrast, White-Basilisk can analyze sequences up to 128,000 tokens long. That is enough to assess entire codebases in a single pass. ... White-Basilisk is also energy-efficient. Because of its small size and streamlined design, it can be trained and run using far less energy than larger models. The research team estimates that training produced just 85.5 kilograms of CO₂. That is roughly the same as driving a gas-powered car a few hundred miles. Some large models emit several tons of CO₂ during training. This efficiency also applies at runtime. White-Basilisk can analyze full-length codebases on a single high-end GPU without needing distributed infrastructure. ‘Subliminal learning’: Anthropic uncovers how AI fine-tuning secretly teaches bad habits

Distillation is a common technique in AI application development. It involves training a smaller “student” model to mimic the outputs of a larger, more capable “teacher” model. This process is often used to create specialized models that are smaller, cheaper and faster for specific applications. However, the Anthropic study reveals a surprising property of this process. The researchers found that teacher models can transmit behavioral traits to the students, even when the generated data is completely unrelated to those traits. ... Subliminal learning occurred when the student model acquired the teacher’s trait, despite the training data being semantically unrelated to it. The effect was consistent across different traits, including benign animal preferences and dangerous misalignment. It also held true for various data types, including numbers, code and CoT reasoning, which are more realistic data formats for enterprise applications. Remarkably, the trait transmission persisted even with rigorous filtering designed to remove any trace of it from the training data. In one experiment, they prompted a model that “loves owls” to generate a dataset consisting only of number sequences. When a new student model was trained on this numerical data, it also developed a preference for owls.

AI Skills Are in High Demand, But AI Education Is Not Keeping Up

There’s already a big gap between how many AI workers are needed and how many are available, and it’s only getting worse. The report says the U.S. was short more than 340,000 AI and machine learning workers in 2023. That number could grow to nearly 700,000 by 2027 if nothing changes. Faced with limited options in traditional higher education, most learners are taking matters into their own hands. According to the report, “of these 8.66 million people learning AI, 32.8% are doing so via a structured and supervised learning program, the rest are doing so in an independent manner.” Even within structured programs, very few involve colleges or universities. As the report notes, “only 0.2% are learning AI via a credit-bearing program from a higher education institution,” while “the other 99.8% are learning these skills from alternative education providers.” That includes everything from online platforms to employer-led training — programs built for speed, flexibility, and real-world use, rather than degrees. College programs in AI are growing, but they’re still not reaching enough people. Between 2018 and 2023, enrollment in AI and machine learning programs at U.S. colleges went up nearly 45% each year. Even with that growth, these programs serve only a small slice of learners — most people are still turning to other options.

We need to remember that those behind ransomware attacks are part of organized criminal gangs. These are professional criminal enterprises, not lone hackers, with access to global infrastructures, safe havens to operate from, and laundering mechanisms to clean their profits. ... Disrupting ransomware gangs isn’t just about knocking a website or a dark marketplace offline. It requires trained personnel, international legal instruments, strong financial intelligence, and political support. It also takes time, which means political patience. We can’t expect agencies to dismantle global criminal networks with only short-term funding windows and reactive mandates. ... The problem of ransomware, or indeed cybercrime in general, is not just about improving how organizations manage their cybersecurity, we also need to demand better from the technology providers that those organizations rely on. Too many software systems, including ironically cybersecurity solutions, are shipped with outdated libraries, insecure default settings, complex patching workflows, and little transparency around vulnerability disclosure. Customers have been left to carry the burden of addressing flaws they didn’t create and often can’t easily fix. This must change. The challenges for European data sovereignty

The false sense of security created by the physical storage of data in European data centers of US companies deserves critical consideration. Many organizations assume that geographical storage within the EU automatically means that data is protected by European law. In reality, the physical location is of little significance when legal control is in the hands of a foreign entity. After all, the CLOUD Act focuses on the nationality and legal status of the provider, not on the place of storage. This means that data in Frankfurt or Amsterdam may be accessible to US authorities without the customer’s knowledge. Relying on European data centers as being GDPR-compliant and geopolitically neutral by definition is therefore misplaced. ... European procurement rules often do not exclude foreign companies such as Microsoft or Amazon, even if they have a branch in Europe. This means that US providers compete for strategic digital infrastructure, while Europe wants to position itself as autonomous. The Dutch government recently highlighted this challenge and called for an EU-wide policy that combats digital dependency and offers opportunities for European providers without contravening international agreements on open procurement.

Architects are not super-human. Most learned to be good by failing miserably dozens or hundreds of times. Many got the title handed to them. Many gave it to themselves. Most come from spectacularly different backgrounds. Most have a very different skill set. Most disagree with each other. ... When someone gets online and says, ‘Real Architects’, I puke a little. There are no real architects. Because there is no common definition of what that means. What competencies should they have? How were those competencies measured and by whom? Did the person who measured them have a working model by which to compare their work? To make a real architect repeatedly, we have to get together and agree what that means. Specifically. Repeatably. Over and over and over again. Tens of thousands of times and learn from each one how to do it better as a group! ... The competency model for a successful architect is large, difficult to learn, and most of employers do not recognize or give you opportunities to do it very often. They have defined their own internal model, from ‘all architects are programmers’ to ‘all architects work with the CEO’. The truth is simple. Study. Experiment. Ask tough questions. Simple answers are not the answer. You do not have to be everything to everyone. Business architects aren’t right, but neither are software architects.

Of all the banks presenting, BofA was the most explicit in describing how it is using various forms of artificial intelligence. The bank included a full-page graphic among its presentation slides, the chart describing four "pillars," in Moynihan’s words, where the bank is applying AI tools. ... Translating a problem into terms that can be logically evaluated step by step, like the code loop, is all that's needed. ... The future of automated reasoning is melding it with generative AI, a synthesis referred to as neuro-symbolic. On the most basic level, it's possible to translate from natural-language terms into formulas that can be rigorously analyzed using logic by Zelkova. In that way, Gen AI can be a way for a non-technical individual to frame their goal in informal, natural language terms, and then have automated reasoning take that and implement it rigorously. The two disciplines can be combined to give non-logicians access to formal proofs, in other words.


Can Security Culture Be Taught? AWS Says Yes

Security culture is broadly defined as an organization's shared strategies, policies, and perspectives that serve as the foundation for its enterprise security program. For many years, infosec leaders have preached the importance of a strong culture and how it cannot only strengthen the organization's security posture but also spur increases in productivity and profitability. Security culture has also been a focus in the aftermath of last year's scathing Cyber Safety Review Board (CSRB) report on Microsoft, which stemmed from an investigation into a high-profile breach of the software giant at the hands of the Chinese nation-state threat group Storm-0558. The CSRB found "Microsoft's security culture was inadequate and requires an overhaul," according to the April 2024 report. Specifically, the CSRB board members flagged an overall corporate culture at Microsoft that "deprioritized both enterprise security investments and rigorous risk management." ... But security culture goes beyond frameworks and executive structures; Herzog says leaders need to have the right philosophies and approaches to create an effective, productive environment for employees throughout the organization, not just those on the security team. ... Kashikar illustrated this with a use case: “If I’m a marketing analyst, when I click on anything like cross-sell, upsell, or new customer buying prediction, it understands I’m a marketing analyst, and it will take me to the respective system and provide me the insights that are available and accessible to my role.” This meant that marketing, engineering, or sales professionals could each have tailored access to the insights most relevant to them. Underlying the system were core principles that ensured the program’s effectiveness, says Kaahikar. This includes information, accessibility, and discoverability, and its integration with business processes to make it actionable. ... AI has become a staple in business conversations today, and Kashikar sees this growing interest as a positive sign of progress. While this widespread awareness is a good starting point, he cautions that focusing solely on models and technologies only scratches the surface, or can provide a quick win. To move from quick wins to lasting impact, Kashikar believes that data leaders must take on the role of integrators. He says, “The data leaders need to consider themselves as facilitators or connectors where they have to take a look at the entire ecosystem and how they leverage this ecosystem to create the greatest business impact which is sustainable as well.”

The legal minefield of hacking back

Attribution in cyberspace is incredibly complex because attackers use compromised systems, VPNs, and sophisticated obfuscation techniques. Even with high confidence, you could be wrong. Rather than operating in legal gray areas, companies need to operate under legally binding agreements that allow security researchers to test and secure systems within clearly defined parameters. That’s far more effective than trying to exploit ambiguities that may not actually exist when tested in court. ... Active defense, properly understood, involves measures taken within your own network perimeter, like enhanced monitoring, deception technologies like honeypots, and automated response systems that isolate threats. These are defensive because they operate entirely within systems you own and control. The moment you cross into someone else’s system, even to retrieve your own stolen data, you’ve entered offensive territory. It doesn’t matter if your intentions are defensive; the action itself is offensive. Retaliation goes even further. It’s about causing harm in response to an attack. This could be destroying the attacker’s infrastructure, exposing their operations, or launching counter-attacks. This is pure vigilantism and has no place in responsible cybersecurity. ... There’s also the escalation risk. That “innocent” infrastructure might belong to a government entity, a major corporation, or be considered critical infrastructure.

A driver who believes his speedometer is inaccurate may alter the car’s speed to compensate unnecessarily. Similarly, analysts who lose faith in the accuracy of the data powering their models may attempt to tweak the models to adjust for anomalies that don’t exist. Maximizing the value of a company’s data is possible only if the people consuming the data trust the work done by the people developing their data products. ... Once you know the benefits and risks of making data trustworthy, the hard work of determining the best way to realize, measure, and maintain data trust begins. Among the goals of a data trust program are promoting the company’s privacy, security, and ethics policies, including consent management and assessing the risks of sharing data with third parties. The most crucial aspect of a data trust program is convincing knowledge workers that they can trust AI-based tools. A study released recently by Salesforce found that more than half of the global knowledge workers it surveyed don’t trust the data that’s used to train AI systems, and 56% find it difficult to extract the information they need from AI systems.


Six reasons successful leaders love questions

A modern way of saying this is that questions are data. Leaders who want to leverage this data should focus less on answering everyone’s questions themselves and more on making it easy for the people they are talking to—their employees—to access and help one another answer the questions that have the biggest impact on the company’s overall purpose. For example, part of my work with large companies is to help leaders map what questions their employees are asking one another and analyze the group dynamics in their organization. This gives leaders a way to identify critical problems and at the same time mobilize the people who need to solve them. ... The key to changing the culture of an organization is not to tell people what to do, but to make it easy for them to ask the questions that make them consider their current behavior. Only by making room for their colleagues, employees, and other stakeholders to ask their own questions and activate their own experience and insights can leaders ensure that people’s buy-in to new initiatives is an active choice, and thus something they feel committed to acting on. ... The decision to trust the process of asking and listening to other people’s questions is also a decision to think of questioning as part of a social process—something we do to better understand ourselves and the people surrounding us.
