Today’s the day! We are delighted to announce the launch of the new ship.energy website, bringing together all the amazing content from the #Petrospot, #Bunkerspot and existing ship.energy platforms. The new website gives shipping and bunker industry stakeholders a great opportunity to learn all about conventional and alternative marine fuels, as well as vessel propulsion and efficiency technologies. ship.energy will continue to add its powerful voice to the growing debate over how shipping and the bunker sector can actively and fully participate in the marine energy transition to zero emissions. It does this through news reporting, expert commentary, interviews, podcasts, bunker prices, global conferences, roundtables and training (think #ARACON, Maritime Week Americas #MWA25, Maritime Week Africa (#MWAF25, Marine Energy Transition Forum #METF25, the Oxford Bunker Course and BunkerExperience, and much more!). Plus, of course, there’s our ‘hero’ magazine, #Bunkerspot, which has published the best in articles and features on marine fuels for over two decades. We will be ‘retiring’ our Petrospot and Bunkerspot LinkedIn accounts and encourage you to follow the new ship.energy crowd! We hope you like what you see – and hear – on the new ship.energy platform, and we are always ready to have a conversation about all things bunkering! Alexandra Ebbinghaus, General Manager – Decarbonisation at Shell Marine will be speaking at the Marine Energy Transition Forum taking place in London, 15 September 2025, as part of London International Shipping Week. Alexandra will speak in session two: Energising change. Alternative marine energy sources – LNG, biofuel, methanol, and hydrogen, ammonia – will be discussed in this session, with a focus on pricing, in the near and longer term, and the cost ‘pinch points’ along the fuel supply chain. The presentations and discussions will address: Fuel producers’ decarbonisation options and strategies The supply and demand conundrum – fuel producers are waiting for shipowners’ demand signals while owners and operators want certainty on fuel availability and scalability; why do final investment decisions stall? The role of ports as energy hubs – investing in a fit-for-purpose future port The evolution of the bunker sector – how is the industry adapting to a changing – and higher priced – commercial environment What happens after the pilot project? Taking the next steps to commercialisation Find out more here ➔ marineenergyforum.com #METF25 #London #Maritime #EnergyTransition #Decarbonisation

🚢💧Could LBM Be Shipping’s New FuelEU Compliance Champion? In the latest edition of Bunkerspot, ENGINE’s Konica Bhatt explores how liquid biomethane (LBM) is moving into the spotlight for European shipowners. Recent bunkerings include: 🔹 Shell – 500 mt delivered to "K" line (Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd) in Zeebrugge, Belgium 🔹 Rohe Solutions Oy – first LBM bunkering in Hamina, Finland 🔹 Gasum – just under 5,000 mt supplied to two of Hapag-Lloyd AG's dual-fuel vessels in Rotterdam and Wilhelmshaven Using default FuelEU factors, one LBM-powered vessel could theoretically offset the compliance deficits of 36–45 LNG-fuelled ships, depending on engine methane slip. 💬 As Konica notes: 'Liquid biomethane, once seen as niche, is now rapidly becoming a favoured option for dual-fuel shipowners seeking a commercial edge.' Read the full article to see how compliance benefits, pooling economics, and voluntary incentives are shaping demand for LBM. 👇 #fueleu #energytransition #alternativefuels

As regulations tighten and investment pressures mount, shipowners face a dilemma: double down on a long-term commitment to unproven fuels or risk falling behind on compliance. In the latest edition of Bunkerspot, our Head of Marine, Linda Johnstone Sorensen, Ph.D., explains how MSAR® and bioMSAR™ provide an alternative route. These drop-in emulsion fuels reduce CO₂ and NOx today while remaining compatible with existing engines and bunkering infrastructure. They avoid the high CAPEX that inhibit other alternative fuels, offering both immediate regulatory compliance and long-term scalability. With commercial trials progressing across Europe and the Americas, we’re demonstrating how practical bridging solutions can support shipping’s decarbonisation objectives. OPEC+ has brought back 2.2 million barrels per day of voluntary production cuts. #VLCC demand is rising as a result, and now is the time to capture higher spot market returns. In the latest issue of Bunkerspot, a ship.energy magazine, our CEO Charlie Grey, underscores why agility is more important than ever. While time charters provide income stability, they limit the ability to benefit from improving market conditions. Many owners are instead turning to VLCC pooling, which offers exposure to the spot market, reduces earnings volatility, and the advantage of a larger pool of ships to always be able to fix when the market is heating up.
