We’re proud to announce that the Colne Valley Viaduct project, delivered for HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd, has been recognised with two prestigious accolades at the New Civil Engineer Bridges Awards 2025: Project Team of the Year and Innovation in Carbon Reduction. These awards celebrate both the engineering excellence and sustainability achievements of this landmark infrastructure project. At 3.4km, the Colne Valley Viaduct is the UK’s longest rail viaduct—an extraordinary example of technical precision and architectural elegance. Constructed using over 1,000 pre-cast segments, its sweeping curves and scale set a new benchmark for rail infrastructure. VolkerFitzpatrick has been awarded a position on National Grid’s High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) supply chain framework, taking a position on Lot 2 for onshore cable civil works. VolkerStevin will be collaborating with VolkerFitzpatrick in the delivery of this work, providing National Grid with access to the benefits of the wider VolkerWessels UK Group. This announcement marks the final stage of National Grid’s supply chain framework, reinforcing the commitment to delivering the energy infrastructure needed to support a resilient electricity system and meet growing demand. We’re delighted to have been selected by National Grid for this important framework. VolkerFitzpatrick, as part of the Southern Renewals Enterprise and in collaboration with Network Rail, has successfully completed a 10-week programme of essential repairs on the 175-year-old Blackheath Tunnel bridge. Located between Charlton and Blackheath stations, this work was vital to improving the long-term safety and reliability of the railway for passengers. Key works included: • Ground stabilisation using advanced geopolymer injection • Targeted brickwork and tunnel lining repairs • Drainage renewals and ground investigations • Continuous monitoring and assurance inspections This project marks another step forward in maintaining and future-proofing our historic rail infrastructure.
