The PWC Chicago Mentorship Committee joined Girls in the Game for a Leader to Leader Interview event, introducing young women to the construction industry and providing insight into daily activities associated with their jobs. PWC Members Michelle Heron-Means, Jacquelyn Harvey, Nighath Ali, Elizabeth V. Rodenkirch, and Hannah Lux spoke about their educational backgrounds and career paths and then invited questions from the students. What message did students take away from our PWC panelists? As one attendee noted– “As a woman you can dominate any field you want.” Professional Women in Construction Chicago Chapter is proud to highlight the diverse career paths and amazing accomplishments of our members, while showing young women their potential future in the construction industry. #ProfessionalWomeninConstruction #GirlsintheGame #RepresentationMatters #BuildingtheFuture #Mentorship

Professional Women in Construction Chicago Chapter is excited to share the impactful work of Arquitina. Founded in 2020 by PWC Chicago Board Member Alicia Ponce 🦋 Architect, Arquitina is changing our industry with an ethos to “Lift as You Climb!” Women represent approximately 20% of licensed architects in the US, and Latina women are less than 1.5% of that number. Arquitina is working to raise the percentage of licensed Latina architects in the US while creating equitable and inclusive opportunities in the architecture profession. You can support Arquitina by attending their “Enchanted Carnival” Gala on Friday, September 5. We loved seeing new faces and returning friends at our 4th Annual Summer Social at the Canal Street Eatery. Despite the threatening storms, we had another Sold Out Professional Women in Construction Chicago Chapter event! Thanks to our Programs Committee for once again creating a welcoming vibe with our featured “Flying Solo” space, where red balloons invited first-time attendees or anyone else looking for a friendly welcome to gather. Name tag prompts featuring custom “Ask Me about….” were also provided for those looking for an extra spark to get the conversation going. And our DEI Committee hosted a pre-event happy hour for our MWDBE colleagues and past “Meet the Primes” attendees to reconnect and continue building their networks. It’s been exciting to see the many social media posts recapping the energy of this fun and lively evening! You can check out our professional photos from the evening on our website at https://lnkd.in/gkdgZcQA Mark your calendars now for our final major event of the year– the Fall Panel on Thursday, November 13– you won’t want to miss it! #ProfessionalWomeninConstruction #ProfessionalWomeninConstructionChicago #WomeninConstruction

Firsthand Experiences of the Mentorship Program at Professional Women in Construction Chicago The mission of Professional Women in Construction Chicago Chapter is to support, advance, and connect women and promote diversity in the AEC industry. One of the ways we work towards that mission is through the Mentorship Program. The program, which provides ways for experienced and emerging professionals to engage in meaningful relationships that foster growth and confidence, is available to all PWC Chicago members. To gain a better understanding of the Mentorship Program and its benefits, the Communications Committee sat down with two PWC Chicago members who are currently part of the program. As an experienced attorney and former construction company executive, Caryn Maxfield (American Global) is a valued mentor for Kathryn Feddor (CBRE). Roxy Kermani (Juan Gabriel Moreno Architects (JGMA) has benefited greatly from a dynamic mentoring relationship with D. Mihaela Ianev-Cajigas, IIDA, NCIDQ, LEEP AP, WELL AP (bKL Architecture LLC).
