I love SharePoint

For those of you that have followed me during the years have noticed that I love SharePoint. My mission with my series of articles is not to make you love it, I want more users to dislike SharePoint.

In 2001 did Microsoft release the first version of SharePoint, I myself started working with it in 2006. I have been amazed by not only the ability to store files in SharePoint, one of the great features of SharePoint is Lists. I see it as a webbased Excle list and that is what I train users to see.

SharePoint has improved over the years a lot, the importance have grown so that SharePoint is still alive. Even I was worried in the end of 2015 that SharePoint would die as a product.

The launch of Microsoft Teams in 2017 saved the life on SharePoint, Teams has SharePoint as the file storage. It is so that when you create a private channel you even create a new SharePoint Site collection, not the same as the site for the Team.

OneDrive is your own SharePoint site for storage of your work documents that you do not yet need to share with your coworkers.

OneDrive is just for one person as the name emplies, it is NOT intended to be shared among the whole organisation. Unfortunately this is due to the confusion of names. I will write an article on that topic later.

With Microsoft 365 Copilot is the importance of SharePoint huge. It is one of the key sources for Copilot to look into for answers to prompts. I will give advice on how to make SharePoint Copilot ready in next weeks articles.

I know that many people dislike SharePoint, it is amlost always due to misconfiguration of SharePoint or lack of training. I will in future articles write about my experience with SharePoint so moore users can move from disliking SharePoint to like or even love it.
