LinkedIn – Have a Word…
“Like, link and share…”
I get about ten of these a day. Most of the time, I’ll do the obligatory like or repost—but I can’t anymore. It’s not just a silent shrug; it’s a rage against the machine. A full-on two fingers to the content churn. Go do one.
The guff. The volume. The sanctimonious self-congratulation. The zero curation. Content is king? Sure—when it’s well written, thoughtful, original, and adds actual value.
And no, I’m not going to post three times a week, with four videos and five follow-ups. Do me a favour—I’ve got a life to live. And 5,000 unread emails from some bot.
“OOOOO here’s how to get a job…” “OOOOO thoughtful silent leadership…” “OOOOO just be like me and you’ll be happy…”
Well, guess what? I couldn’t even get past your first sentence. It was BS. “Don’t like it? Don’t read it.” Exactly. But you didn’t need to write it either. Add value. Stop doing it just for the likes.
It’s not just empty. It’s noisy. And it’s on me too—I know the platform rewards reach, rewards connection, rewards activity. But I keep coming back to this: So what?
Are you teaching me anything useful? Like the latest in AI prompts? Giving me a glimpse of the future? Breaking down how you built your business, step by step?
99% of the time—no.
How often does someone really have something valuable to say? Well, according to my LinkedIn feed…about 9,999 times a year.
Original thought is rare—and that’s what makes it powerful. It’s thought-provoking. Emotional. Inspiring. It teaches. It moves you.
So what’s the point of this post? Honestly—just a small personal protest. LinkedIn, your platform is broken. It adds little more than a way to see where someone works and maybe pick up a company update here and there.
To individual contributors out there: Maybe—just maybe—think about how to add value. Not with something a bot wrote (even if it’s well-written). But with something you actually believe in. Is it about brand building? Cool—no problem. But your brand is valuable. Stop posting every five minutes.
As for me—I’m not going to like and share everything. I’m not going to post every week.
I am going to talk about what I think really matters:
For the five people who read this—thanks. Go on then… like and share 😂

4moI think LinkedIn is an increasingly 'noisy' platform where it is harder to stand out than ever before unfortunately. I don't think there are many alternatives at the moment....
