Introduction to Electric Current E. Alexander Burt Unit 14 class 1
Definition Current is the flow of charge over time.  In the SI sytem of units, current is measured in Amperes (Amps for short).  One amp equals one Coulomb per second. In order for current to flow: There must be a potential difference (voltage) There must be a conductor.
Equation: In symbols:  I = Q / t I is current in Amps Q is charge in Coulombs t is time in seconds.
More current concepts: “Conventional Current” is defined to be the flow of positive charge. Because electrons are the moving charges, the flow of electrons are in the opposite direction. Conventional current flows from the positive battery terminal to the negative battery terminal
