Social media as a platform for change
Social media is a platform that has grown a great deal over the past decade
It has gone from a luxury to a necessity for most within our forever
growing and adapting society
With everyone being plugged in now to the web it has become a great
means to communicate with the masses
Sites like twitter have become essential because they can connect people
of all walks of life at any given time
Therefore, if a twitter page or account is geared towards a message of
“change,” then the word can spread quickly and gain much support

Twitter
Twitter is an online social networking service and micro-blogging service that enables its
users to send and read text-based messages of up to 140 characters, known as "tweets".

Twitter as means of
Communication
Twitter is used by major brands in order to promote not only their product but also
their identity
It serves as a means to bring the consumer into look, feel and vibe of the brand.
While also giving a interaction concept to the identity.
Users are able to enter contests and even win giveaways depending on the brand.
It also serves as a means to communicate with the community and keep us up to date
with stories
It’s used by police departments, major newspapers and was even a pivotal part in
raising money to donate to victims of the bombings at the Boston Marathon

What’s next?
With all that being said, I’d like to use twitter as a means of social change
I’ve started my own company called, “BeInitiative.” It’s a clothing company that is
devoted to spreading a positive message around the city in order to create change
By living on twitter the company can gain an online presence, while also spreading
the positive word of, “being the change you seek.”
It will also serve to let the community know when new products will be released, as
well where they can purchase an item
Also we can update the community as to where we’ll be located in the city on a weekly
basis and what events we will be attending
Monday, August 12, 2013
Mission: The purpose of “Be” is to help restore a sense of pride and confidence
in the inner city through art forms and strong positive statements. The mindset
of this movement is for the people and by the people. We want to initiate and
motivate all to believe in a positive change for the betterment of the city. We
challenge you to be the change you seek.

Vision
The presence on twitter will serve to bring the community together by creating a
platform for people to talk about issues they’d like to change in the city or even just
speak on their pride for their city
By using posting pictures and using hashtags, like #bethechange will show how
people are actively creating change within the city
Also with the use of hashtags people will realize that their are others in the city trying
to bring changes just as they are
The hopes are that with the simple use, people will then come together for bigger
events in the city, where they can physically interact and create change. Whether it’s
things like fundraisers for community centers, block parties, or even to bring in a
speaker for the community.

Campaign #1
The initial campaign on twitter will be the #bethechangeyouseek
We will release this image with a description of the project and let people know that in order
to create they must not only think on it but act on it
They will then be encouraged to take pictures of themselves and uploading them to twitter
with the #bethechangeyouseek #beinitiative
Monday, August 12, 2013
Campaign #2
The second campaign will consist of #initiate &
#motivate tags that will be uploaded with ideas of
how to create change
Instead of images change in the city, these will be
ideas/a brainstorm on twitter so that we can gain
ideas from the people
Monday, August 12, 2013
Campaign #3
Campaign #3 will again be about imagery and
capturing people in their own element while
wearing one of our “Be the best you” shirts
People are encouraged to upload their photos
in our shirt to show the diversity and range of
ourselves as people.
We are unique individuals who together
make one cohesive entity

Campaign #4
The fourth campaign is a bit more personal
and local. There’s a mural in Roxbury that’s
titled “Face of Dudley.” People would be
encouraged to take a picture at the mural if
they’re able to get to it with the
#facesofdudley tag.sowecanbe

Moving Forward
Right now, the BeInitiative twitter page has 60 tweets, 35
followers and follows 97. We’d like to continue to grow our
message and our community
We’d like to bring people together and talk about social change
within these 140 characters or even beyond it
We are also in the process of trying to begin a Facebook page in
order to serve a similar purpose
