- 2. Movie of Divergent and Hunger Games : Catching Fire are the two science fiction movie which have the similarity in their characters which is Beatrice Prior and Katniss Everdeen. Besides that, both of the movie share most of the same themes. Divergent is a movie about faction. In post-apocalyptic Chicago, everyone belongs to one faction, which you can choose another faction instead of the original faction when you turn 16. Each of the five factions is dedicated to one ideal. Beatrice is the main character of Divergent. When she turns 16, she choose other faction and here’s the story begin. For Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Katniss Everdeen is the main Character. The movie begins as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark venture through the 12 districts on a the Victory Tour to celebrate their win in the 74th annual Hunger Games. However, as the two character have managed to spark ideas for revolution. The president announced that the 75th annual Hunger Games which is a special event known as the Quarter Quell. The game mentioned will put previous champions back into the arena. This two movie share the same characters’ personality in selflessness and bravery. They also share the similarity in the themes of classification and loyalty. First of all, both Beatrice and Katniss similar in selflessness. Beatrice, which have a new name known as Tris has selflessness inside of her. She grew up in abnegation and even after transferring factions and maintain selflessness. She has a part of her that puts others before herself her. This can be seen clearly on Tris. She put herself in risk to protect the people she loves and her society. Katniss is a tough young woman who has a strong urge to always protect those weaker than herself. At the beginning, she craves little more than a simple and safe life for herself and her loved ones. For example, when it’s come to end of the game, she learns that she’s become a symbol of rebellion against the Capitol because she challenged the power of Capitol’s rules and threatened suicide with Peeta at the end of the game. But Katniss wasn’t want to stage an act of rebellion initially. Mostly she wanted to save Peeta, her district and herself. Through both of their personality, I learned that selflessness and sacrifice isn’t only important in romantic relationships, it's also important in other relationships. When you care about your relationship with someone, you have to understand that you sometimes have to make sacrifices for those you care about. Second similarity is bravery. Both movies involve a female that is brave and daring. Beatrice appears to be extremely brave. For example, she is the first jumper to ranking first in the initiation although she doesn’t seem like it, This also can shown when she climbs the Ferris wheel courageously during the first stage of initiation. Her extreme bravery come from different personality inside her such as selflessness because she wanted to protect her loved ones. For another girl who is Katniss is a strong and brave girl. Katniss is the main provider in her family, which consists of Katniss, her mother, and her younger sister, Prim. She is fiercely protective of her younger sister, the bravery personality can be seen when she volunteers to take Prim’s place in the Hunger Games to protect her. The personality of brave is very impressive. I learned that being brave can do something more that you expected, and break the limit that we couldn’t achieve.
- 3. Theme of classification is strongly shown in two of this movie. Both movies involve the division of the population into “factions” or “ districts”. In Divergent, society is organized by faction. There are five factions in Divergent. There is Abnegation, Erudite, Dauntless, Amity and Candor. Abnegation is the faction that values the needs of others above the needs of oneself. Erudite care for appropriate speeches as well as their search of knowledge. Dauntless are those who are brave, seeming almost fearless. They are those who guard the fence. Amity is the members that value peace and harmony. They act as compassionate counselors and caretakers. Candor provides people with trustworthy and sound leaders in law. In the movie of Catching fire, people are classified to rich and poor. Wealth is heavily concentrated in capital and certain districts. The result is a huge difference between their lives and the poor. Classification is easily recognized through “factions” and “districts”. The following obvious comparison of theme in this both movie is loyalty. In Divergent, loyalty is a big deal within the factions. People are expected to act as their faction expects them to act and to never turn aside. Tris can't even decide whether to be loyal to her boyfriend or to her boyfriend's father due to loyalty as the two of whom have opposing ideas on what's best for the city. In catching fire, loyalty can be seen through the district citizen at first. If a district citizen is not loyal to the Capital, then he or she can expect a cruel punishment or maybe even death. Besides that, Katniss and Gale are loyal to the Capitol by continue to hunt even though they are not supposed to. This can point out the theme of loyalty. Last but not least, there are a lot of similarities in both of the movie. I have chosen the similarity that strongly point out the chosen title which is personality of selflessness and bravery, themes of classification and loyalty. All of these show the value of life lesson and great personality. There is a lot of interesting interaction between this two movie and I get to learned something new by reviewing the movies. I get to more about this two character and learn some life lessons.
