responsive to the changing
needs and problems of society.

INSTRUCTIONAL

is evaluated to ascertain if they
are adequate and updated like
books, references, etc.

Assessment of learning
Documents student learning at
the end of an instructional unit
Provides grades for
accountability purposes
A summative assessment/evaluation is
designed to:
1. make judgments about student
achievement at the end of a sequence of
instruction (e.g., final drafts, long tests,
major/final exam, projects, performances)
2. determine a student’s mastery and
understanding of information, skills,
concepts, or processes.
Summative Assessment Strategies:
Unit/Chapter Test Demonstration
Performance Task Portfolio Review
Product/Exhibit Quarterly/Periodic Test
Summative assessment - Assessment Of
Learning accounts summaries of how much
students have learned at a particular point in
time and are graded to be put in the class record.
In conclusion, summative assessment is a
successful END PRODUCT and/or the fulfilling of
the pre-stated learning outcome.
