Use of text: I have chosen a Sting. The sting that I have chosen is Creative io. The title stands out very well
(Title, Credits, animated captions, stings, to the viewers. From the time frame 0:00 to 0:04 we can see the title engraved into the stone.
indents, interactive menus, web banner) The use of text is very eye catching and bold.

Brief description: At the start of the video we see from the time line 0:00 to 0:04 that the title is engraved along
What do you see? with the website of the company and also their phone number. It was engraved into stone. We
can also see as the title was being engraved we see the smoke falling from the top. It gives it
that effect of realism. I think the purpose of this was to grab the audience’s attention. From
0:04 to 0:10 we can see the creative io title in a more eye catching way. From where it starts
we can see the use of colours and how much they stand out. We see colours in shapes of
circles flying about and the abstract shape behind the title changing colours and fading in and
out. I think computer graphics was used to create this sting. We can tell by the graphics and
the animations. From 0:10 to 0:20 we can see the creative io title being used in a different type
of graphic. The title seems to be fading in along with the smoke as you can see in the video.
The graphic is very eye catching. From then on the video just presents the creative io title in
different types of graphics. In this video we can see that the creative io company is advertising
their company by producing lots of ways of showing the title in different types of graphics.

Techniques used: Throughout the video the graphics was all done by a computer. The colours are bright and
Animation, Visual Effects, Colour Rendering, stand out very well to the audience. From the start of the video till the end of video the
Graphics, Movement graphics look very sharp and crisp. In terms of movement, the camera zooms in and out of the
title or move from side to side. It makes the viewer attached to the video.

                                                                                                                                                   1

Advanced techniques: From the start of the video we see the title of the company being engraved into the stone.
Blur, Sharpen, Distortion, Rotation, Opacity From where it was engraved we can see the sharpness and depth of the writing in the stone. It
is very eye catching. The purpose of this is to obviously attract the viewer to carry on watching
the rest of the video. But the producer of this video has played with a lot of effects such
distortion and colour rendering. For example from 0:04 to 0:10 we can see a very good
example of colour rendering. Again like I said the purpose of this is to make the viewer
attracted to the video. From the timeframe 0:20 to 0:27 we can see the graphic of the fire
coming towards the camera at certain points, but what I think is good is how the producer
played with that fire in terms of graphics, by making the fire disoriented in certain bits from
                                               the timeframe given.

Technical comments: The current format of the video is on 360p. Because I gathered it from youtube you can
Video Format, Screen Ratio, Resolution, increase the video format into 1080p. This is the highest format you can see the video on
Frame rate, Compression through youtube. The advantage of having the 360p format is the video will play smoothly
without lagging due to the internet speed. The disadvantage of having 360p that it is standard
quality for youtube. Depending on the user, they can change it to 480p, 720p and leading up to
the highest 1080p. 240p is the lowest setting you can have on youtube. The common problem
with having the format on the highest setting is that you will find the video itself struggling to
buffer and play, because the more you increase the format of the video the more it would
focus more on the quality of the video. This will cause a problem of the buffering of the video.
In terms of ratio I gathered the video from a computer screen that runs on 16:9. 16:9 is the
most common ratio used when it comes to watching videos on youtube. The advantage of
having the screen ratio on 16:9 that it is standard cinematic viewing. It is easy to watch without
being bugged of how small the screen is. Having the ratio any higher would be good but it
depends on how big your monitor or TV that you are using. In terms of resolution HD formats
run on 720p and 1080p. Like I said in video formats having the resolution increased has its
                                               advantages and disadvantages.

Glossary

Motion graphics - Graphics that use video footage and/or animation technology to create the illusion of motion or rotation, graphics are
usually combined with audio for use in multimedia projects.
Compositing video - When there are several different clips of video are layered over one another to create a single image.
Interactive Menus – DVD Interface or Interactive Menus on a web page
Ident – The ‘call sign’ of a channel or production company to identify themselves on screen, usually shown before a programme.
Animated Captions – Animated Graphics layered over an image / video
Web Banners – A form of web advertising that is embedded into a web page. They are used to attract a viewer to their website. A Web
Banner usually a mix of motion graphics and video
Video Format - 3 Main Formats HD, PAL, NTSC. HD is the highest resolution (720 or 1080 vertical lines in the image). PAL is the UK
Standard definition image (576 vertical lines). NTSC is the US Standard definition image (480 vertical lines). Now in the
digital age we now look at video format in terms of pixels (i.e. High definition 1080; 1920 x 1080 or 2,073,600 pixels)
Screen ratio – Standard TV ratio is 4:3; this means that for every 4 units wide it is 3 units high. It is likely that the screen ratio will be
Widescreen (16:9) in a cinematic sequence.
Resolution – The amount of detail in an image or signal, such as Standard TV Definition and High Definition. See Video Format.
Frame Rate - The number of video or film frames displayed each second (frames per second; fps). PAL frame (standard UK TV) is 25
fps, NTSC (standard US TV) is 30 fps, film is 24 fps. This means as NTSC updates more regularly there is less strobing
                    (jerkiness).
Compression – The use of Codecs (WMV, DivX) to reduce the file size of a video by a variety of methods. This sometimes means a loss in
image quality (a “lossy”). Codecs are found in Video Cameras, DVD players / recorders, Editing Packages, Video upload
                    sites)

                                                                                                                                                  3

From where it starts we can see the use of colours and how much they stand out. We see colours in shapes of circles flying about and the abstract shape behind the title changing colours and fading in and out. I think computer graphics was used to create this sting. We can tell by the graphics and the animations. From 0:10 to 0:20 we can see the creative io title being used in a different type of graphic. The title seems to be fading in along with the smoke as you can see in the video. The graphic is very eye catching. From then on the video just presents the creative io title in different types of graphics. In this video we can see that the creative io company is advertising their company by producing lots of ways of showing the title in different types of graphics. Blur, Sharpen, Distortion, Rotation, Opacity From where it was engraved we can see the sharpness and depth of the writing in the stone. It is very eye catching. The purpose of this is to obviously attract the viewer to carry on watching the rest of the video. But the producer of this video has played with a lot of effects such distortion and colour rendering. For example from 0:04 to 0:10 we can see a very good example of colour rendering. Again like I said the purpose of this is to make the viewer attracted to the video. From the timeframe 0:20 to 0:27 we can see the graphic of the fire coming towards the camera at certain points, but what I think is good is how the producer played with that fire in terms of graphics, by making the fire disoriented in certain bits from the timeframe given. Technical comments: The current format of the video is on 360p. Because I gathered it from youtube you can Video Format, Screen Ratio, Resolution, increase the video format into 1080p. This is the highest format you can see the video on Frame rate, Compression through youtube. The advantage of having the 360p format is the video will play smoothly without lagging due to the internet speed. The disadvantage of having 360p that it is standard quality for youtube. Depending on the user, they can change it to 480p, 720p and leading up to the highest 1080p. 240p is the lowest setting you can have on youtube. The common problem with having the format on the highest setting is that you will find the video itself struggling to buffer and play, because the more you increase the format of the video the more it would focus more on the quality of the video. This will cause a problem of the buffering of the video. In terms of ratio I gathered the video from a computer screen that runs on 16:9. 16:9 is the most common ratio used when it comes to watching videos on youtube. The advantage of having the screen ratio on 16:9 that it is standard cinematic viewing. It is easy to watch without being bugged of how small the screen is. Having the ratio any higher would be good but it depends on how big your monitor or TV that you are using. In terms of resolution HD formats run on 720p and 1080p. Like I said in video formats having the resolution increased has its advantages and disadvantages. Motion Graphics and Video Compositing Unit 64 2
