This document discusses ways to improve retention of new believers by addressing their needs through counseling and mentoring. It identifies six main needs of new believers: (1) having their questions answered, (2) understanding Christian concepts, (3) knowing how to live according to their culture and traditions, (4) accessing teachings in their own language, (5) having encouragement from friends and family, and (6) ongoing mentoring for many years. It argues that cell phones can help connect new believers to coaches, mentors, and materials. Local believers need support and training to disciple others in their communities.
