INTRODUCTION
Assignments is the most common way in which
instructors give students an opportunity to
develop, apply and demonstrate new knowledge.
These assignments can take many forms: short
papers, research papers, problem sets, lab reports,
and so forth. Such assignments are also an
important means of summative assessment,
providing us with grades that we hope reflect
students’ level of effort and learning.
Aim of Assignment
You should be clear and specific with students about
what your goals and expectations from each
assignment.
The nature and construction of each assignment
should reflect the learning goals you articulated when
you created the course.
The assignments you create for students should be
challenging but not intimidating or overwhelming.
Objectives of Assignment
It provides good training for information seeking.
 It inculcates the self learning attitude among the
students.
 It provides information analysis and research
attitude to the learners.
 It develops the learning experiences from various
sources.
Types of Assignments
Home Assignments:
The assignments given by the teacher is completed by
the students in their home with the help of reference
books and instructions / information provided by the
teacher.
College Assignments: The teacher interrogates some
questions regarding the experiment or tasks. The
students have to find the answer with the help of text
books and library books and report it in written form.
Advantages of assignment method
Provides opportunity in self learning for the students
Assignment provides sufficient flexibility in learning
pace of the students.
The progress sheet shows each and every student
achievement and records his strength and weakness
of the students learning activities.
Students can engage with their studies
Increases patience and endurance to tolerate
pressure.
CONCLUSION
The practice of assignment writing needs to be
assumed as an art because of the fact that it takes
courage and lot of hard work in delivering or
completing the best piece of writing. Therefore, the
importance of writing assignments in the field of
higher education cannot be overlooked in any way.
This is because of the reason that assignments are
helpful in providing awareness and knowledge
regarding the topic to a certain extent.
