What is private 5G?
• Private 5G refers to a mobile network that is
technically the same as a public 5G network, but
which allows the owner to provide priority
access or licensing for its wireless spectrum.
• It is a local area network that uses 3GPP-based
network spectrum, to create unified connectivity
and a secure means of communication within a
specific area.
• Reduced latency and increased reliability makes
private 5G especially interesting for industrial
applications
SCOPE OF 5G
Fifth-generation wireless (5G) is the latest iteration of cellular
technology. With 5G, data transmitted over wireless broadband
connections can travel at multigigabit speeds, with potential peak speeds
as high as 20 gigabits per second (Gbps) by some estimates. These
speeds exceed wireline network speeds and offer latency of 1
millisecond (ms) or lower for uses that require real-time feedback. 5G
will also enable a sharp increase in the amount of data transmitted over
wireless systems due to more available bandwidth and advanced antenna
technology.
PRIVATE (4G) LTE V’S PRIVATE 5G ?
• Private LTE (4G) networks have been in use for more than 10 years, providing
secure connectivity in use cases where coverage and reliability are needed. 4G
technology often provides sufficient bandwidth and latency for enterprises' needs.
5G is the next generation of cellular network technology for situations that demand
more than what 4G can deliver.
• Private 5G offers numerous performance advantages over private LTE, including
faster data transmission, lower latency, and the ability to connect to more devices in
a defined area. 5G is ultimately expected to provide a huge leap forward in terms of
merging the human user experience and the machine or device experience.
• Private LTE is expected to continue to play an important role, since 5G architecture
can fully support a 4G network.
PRIVATE 5G NETWORKS
 “FULL PRIVATE” 5G NETWORK
• The organization owns the spectrum used for the network and provides the
greatest control and makes it possible to completely isolate network users
from the public 4G LTE and public 5G networks provided by MNOs.
 “PRIVATE SHARED” 5G NETWORK
• 5G’s capabilities allow distinct network slices which comprise different
control and user plane functions, traffic can be routed to a private network
or a software-defined virtual private network on shared infrastructure.
