Editor's Notes

  • #2: A: DISINFORMATION AS A THREAT TO OUR SOCIETY B: FAKE NEWS Q: What does those picture wants to convey?
  • #5: As information is highly available everywhere, it is essential that you identify the sources of your information. Understanding and verifying the sources of your information establish your credibility. Evaluating where they came from will help you get rid of fake news and other unverified information. Basically, there are three major sources of information: primary, secondary, and tertiary documents.
  • #7: Keep in mind that a primary source reflects only one point of view and may contain a person’s bias (prejudice) toward an event.
  • #8: Why do we use primary sources? 1. To find out what happened in the past. 2. They help us find out what happened in the past without someone else’s opinion of what happened. Ex. AUTOBIOGRAPHIES An autobiography is when you write a story or book about yourself. Example: Nelson Mandela wrote his autobiography about events in his life called “Long Walk to Freedom: The Autobiography of Nelson Mandela. This is a primary document because he wrote his first hand experiences. Letters are considered primary documents. Example: Soldiers during wars wrote to their families about war events they experienced. Those letters are considered primary sources.
  • #10: Diaries and journals Example: Anne Frank was a teenager during World War II. She kept a diary or journal the years before she died in a concentration camp. Her diary was later published as the “Diary of Anne Frank”. This is a primary source. Example: Sarah Morgan was young woman during the Civil War. She wrote in her diary or journal what happened to her and her family during the war. This is a primary document because it was first hand. She wrote it at the time it happened. Sarah Morgan Dawson: A Confederate Girl's Diary
  • #16: Secondary sources are made at a later time. They include written information by historians or others AFTER an event has taken place. Although they can be useful and reliable, they cannot reflect what people who lived at the time thought or felt about the event. But they can represent a more fair account of the event because they can include more than one point of view, or may include information that was unavailable at the time of the event.
  • #20: Almanacs – is a book published every year which contains information about events connected with a particular subject or activity, and facts and statistics about that activity BIBLIOGRAPHY – is a list of works on a subject or by an author that were used or consulted to write a research paper, book or article. INDEXES/INDICES – an alphabetical list of names, subjects, etc. with references to the places where they occur, typically found at the end of a book. DICTIONARY – list of words arrange alphabetically with their meaning, pronunciation, origin and usage. ENCYCLOPEDIA – set of books giving information on many subjects or on many aspects of one subject and typically arranged alphabetically.
  • #23: ENCYCLOPEDIA – set of books giving information on many subjects or on many aspects of one subject and typically arranged alphabetically.
  • #24: DICTIONARY – list of words arrange alphabetically with their meaning, pronunciation, origin and usage.
  • #25: Almanacs – is a book published every year which contains information about events connected with a particular subject or activity, and facts and statistics about that activity
  • #26: BIBLIOGRAPHY – is a list of works on a subject or by an author that were used or consulted to write a research paper, book or article.
