1. Introduction
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
A brief description on traditional monopolistic power industry and the new
deregulated power system structure is presented in this work. The structural and
operational differences of these two paradigms are highlighted with the benefits
and complications encountered in the distributed generation in the new
deregulated structure. The issues of voltage sag, placement of distribution
generators and tap changer regulation are dealt with in this project-thesis.
