- 5. The Digitizing Devices Digitizing devices convert manually produce data in a digital form which can be stores and manipulated on a computer.
- 6. Graphic Tablet • A graphic tablet is a board, covered by a touch sensitive membrane. • A stylus is a pointer while a puck is a mouse like device. • The stylus and puck are used to draw directly on tablet.
- 7. The Scanning Devices Scanning devices can convert and store large amount of data in the form of images when they run across the surface of data.
- 8. The optical Scanner : An optical scanner converts printed and hand written text, diagrams and pictures into digital form and send it to the computer directly. The digital image can be displayed, edited, printed and stored for later use. Types of scanner : • Flat-bed scanner • Portable scanner

- 11. The Card Reader: The card reader reads a magnetic strip on a plastic card. This magnetic strips hold information and allow computer to identify the owner of card. • Smart Card • Laser Card
- 12. Quick Response (Q.R) Code Reader: A QR code (short for "quick response" code) is a type of barcode that contains a matrix of dots. It can be scanned using a QR scanner or a smartphone with built-in camera. Once scanned, software on the device converts the dots within the code into numbers or a string of characters. You may soon see QR Codes in a magazine advert, on a billboard, a web page or even on someone’s t-shirt.
- 13. What is Bar Code? A barcode or bar code is a method of representing data in a visual, machine- readable form. Initially, barcodes represented data by varying the widths and spacings of parallel lines.
- 14. The Bar code Reader: • A barcode reader (or barcode scanner) is an optical scanner that can read printed barcodes, decode the data contained in the barcode and send the data to a computer. Like a flatbed scanner, it consists of a light source, a lens and a light sensor translating for optical impulses into electrical signals.
- 15. The Finger Print Reader: The finger print reader is used to identify people. It uses the stored images of finger prints. The scanner uses a light-sensitive microchip is used to produce a digital image. Then computer analyses the image and identify the people.
