This document summarizes an upcoming lunchtime seminar given by Dr. Tracey Lauriault on classifications and spaces. The seminar will discuss:
1) Dr. Lauriault's research as part of the Programmable City project, which examines how cities are translated into code/data and how code/data reshape cities.
2) How classifications like maps, censuses, and databases shape understandings of spaces and people by categorizing and quantifying them.
3) How these classifications become normalized and bureaucratized, in turn reshaping spaces and behaviors.
