A media institution is an established organization that creates and distributes media products. The document discusses several potential media institutions that could distribute a horror/thriller film, including major studios like Disney and specialized horror distributors like Twisted Pictures. Disney and other large companies sometimes distribute horror films through subsidiary brands to avoid stigma. - 1. A media institution is a well-established organization that deals with the creation and distribution of media products. The main major film studios are known as the Hollywood big six, and include ‘Paramount’, ‘Columbia’, ‘Universal’, ‘Warner Bros’ and ‘20th Century Fox’. Although these he institutions have the connections worldwide and really know what they’re doing many of them have never even distributed a horror or thriller film this is why I think it may be best for a company which has more experience in distributing horror and thriller films to distribute our film. I think that any kind of horror/thriller media institution would be willing to distribute our film due to the fact that it is a simple horror/thriller, this is the type of films that these kinds of institutions go for, they deal with nothing but this genre then when they do brings another film out people remember that this institution was associated with the last horror film they saw and the institution gets a good reputation for good horror and thriller films and they will build up a loyal fan base. But, some institutions that you wouldn’t expect to make horror and thriller films do actually make them, but the companies don’t want to be associated with making horror films because it may ruin their reputation for other films like children’s films etc... Companies such as ‘Disney’ do this; they have made horror/thriller films under a different name, in this case ‘Miramax’ (logo shown). I think that companies like this could distribute our film perfectly, they have the knowledge of distributing other horror films but they also have the links and connections to really make it work. However lots of institutions could distribute our film such as institutions which focus on just horror and thriller films, institutions such as ‘Twisted Pictures’ (logo shown). ‘Twisted Pictures’ are responsible for horror films such as the hugely popular ‘SAW’ series and the remake of ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ known as ‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ (2013). ‘Twisted Pictures’ only makes horror and thriller films so they really know a good film when they see one, if they would be willing to distribute our film then using their perfected marketing skills and knowledge of the market segment in horror they could really make our film work for us and get huge viewing numbers around the world. There are lots of media institutions that could distribute our film well, basically all distributors who have experience in distributing horror films or has well established connections worldwide to get the film massively distrubted, companies such as such as the two mentioned above aswell as many more such as ‘Momentum Pictures’ and evencompanies which have lots of connections but don’t usually do many horror films such as ‘Metro Goldwyn Mayer’ who have never done a horror film before but still have the established connections worldwide.
