Nathan tells David a story about a rich man who takes a poor man's only lamb to feed a traveler rather than take from his own flock. David is outraged at the injustice and says the man deserves to die. Nathan then reveals that David is the man - he took Uriah's wife Bathsheba after having him killed. David acknowledges his sin. Nathan says God has forgiven David's sin against him, but the child born from this sinful relationship will die as a consequence of David's actions.

- 1. 2 Samuel 12:1-3a The Lord sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, ‘There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor. The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle, but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. www.networkbible.org
- 2. 2 Samuel 12:3b-4 He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him. Now a traveler came to the rich man, but the rich man refrained from taking one of his own sheep or cattle to prepare a meal for the traveler who had come to him. - 8. Too often Christians classify as ACCEPTABLE what God has called unacceptable. The godly response to sin is REPENTANCE At least nine months have passed since David’s epic COVER UP Sometimes we keep busy to HIDE from ourselves and to run from our own pain.
- 9. You are a person that God LOVES The magnitude of David’s sin is incomprehensible; yet God didn’t GIVE up on him. God REBUKES those he loves.
- 10. We tend to EXAGGERATE the faults in others while MINIMIZING our own. David lashes out at the PERCEIVED injustice while ignoring his injustice. When we sin we are despising the WORD of the Lord and DESPISING the Lord.
- 11. Looking in the mirror helps us to see our sin that we may truly REPENT FORGIVENESS flows freely to the repentant The reality of consequences doesn’t NEGATE the promise of forgiveness.
