This document provides information about a classroom activity to teach place value to students using numbers with multiple digits. The activity has students:
1) Identify the place value of digits in random multi-digit numbers by their position, such as identifying that the 2 in 0.25 is in the tenths place.
2) Work in small groups to come up with the largest or smallest number possible using seven random place value spots.
3) Write out numbers orally dictated by the teacher using digits in their group. The goal is to reinforce that the value of numerals depends on their position in the number.
