Editor's Notes

  • #4: On the My Development site you will find three areas, they are:1- Welcome to my Development2- Manager Toolkit3- Monthly to-do Activities
  • #5: Welcome to My Development – this area provides an overview of My Development, an introduction from Andrew, video guides on how to use My Development and generic materials from the programme. We strongly recommend you visit this area of the site on your first visit to familiarise yourself with the functionality and navigation of the My Development Site. You will also find a feedback questionnaire (with just 3 quick questions) for the module one workshops
  • #6: Manager Toolkit – this area provides access to all of the tools covered in the workshop such as communications, time management, etc. You will find short videos recapping the tools and examples of how to apply the tools in your role. Where appropriate you will also find templates to help you apply the skills and any additional helpful tools. In addition, we will also be hosting Guest Speaker events and question and answer sessions on important management topics. The speakers will from within FBD and experts from industry and business.
  • #7: Monthly Activities – this area is your TO-DO list, each month you will be assigned a selection of tasks related to the topic for that month. These tasks will be in relation to applying the skills covered in the workshop and are tracked for completion to provide you with certification of completion. You will also be sharing your experiences through he various forua.
  • #8: Welcome to this month’s Management Development activities. As per the schedule the theme for this month is Communications. As you know from the class session communications is one of the most critical areas of management and goes across everything we do. Communications will cover the role of the FBD Manager, DISC, and the range of tools we covered in class including WAIT, QLOVES, The Questioning Funnel, Open v Closed Questions, SPEND, and Ask 3 times.
  • #9: Under the Manager Toolkit section on My Development you will find a selection of short videos for each of the Communications tools we covered in the class. Each video will recap the tool and explain how to apply it in your role.  The appropriate slides for each communication tool will also be available under the manager toolkit section of My Development.  Finally in the toolkit section you will also find any relevant templates to help you apply the learning in your role.
  • #10: In the monthly activities section of My Development you will find three tasks you must complete during the month. So what are your tasks this month. Task one:You need to review the Role of the Manager a defined by you and the attributes of the FBD manager under the KASH model outputs as also defined by you. These are two files which you can view by clicking on the link provided in the monthly activities section of My Development for this month. Task two:You will be asked to revisit DISC and identify what you have done or are planning to do in relation to DISC. You will be asked to document how you have used the tool or are planning to use the tool. Examples will be provided to help guide you through the process. Task three:You need to post a comment to the communications Forum (this is a shared forum for all participants to access) in relation to what you have done or plan to do in respect to communications. This is all about sharing knowledge and experiences – you can comment on someone else's post , you can post what you have done and the results you have achieved or you may post your plans of how you are going to share the key learning with your team. You may decide to meet with an internal customer and agree what interactions between you do you need to Start, Stop, or Continue. For example, start sending me weekly emails, stop sending daily emails, and continue with your very valuable feedback. Or you may post what changes you have made to department communications based on your learning from the workshop or any initiatives you may have taken from it. Again a guide to help you complete this activity will be provided and you will find a ‘How to Post to Forums’ video guide in the Welcome to My Development section that details how to post comments and use the forum.
  • #11: Thank you for your time, remember to keep your activities up to date through your My Development account and contact the learning & development group if you have any questions. Enjoy this month’s activities and remember, as a manager you have the ability to shape and encourage staff member to higher performance. Deliver excellence for your customers both internal and external.
