Components of a Blog Title Tag Post Widget Comment RSS Category Page Category Permalink
Titles Make Them Interesting. Use Active Words, Pose a Question. Use Keywords Related to the Post Theme.
Posts The Meat of Your Blog. Ideally 200-300 words. You’re Building a Library. Search Engines Like Frequency. Link to Other Sites and Other Posts in Your Own Blog.
Comments Here’s the Forum to Engage and Connect. Not Every Post Will Have a Comment. Choose to Publish Them Immediately or Hold for Review.
Categories Create an Initial Set of Categories You Want to Write on When You Set Up Your Blog. Can Have More Than One Category per Post. Your Posts Are Indexed on the Categories. Add More as You Go Along.
Tags Themes for Your Post. Decide What Keywords Should Be Prominent. May Include Category Names as Tags.
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) Push Your Content Out to Users Who Want It.

Setup Your Blog on Wordpress.com * Check Your Brokerage Policies to Ensure You’re in Compliance with Office Policies. *

A First Glance
Select a Theme
Add Widgets Play with these on your own. Go into the sidebar.
Settings -> General Name your blog. Add a tagline. Add a header image.
Settings -> Discussion Set Comment policy. Receive notice when a comment comes in. Chose to manually approve it.
Upgrades -> Domain Premium Feature. Add your domain you registered at GoDaddy. Will require an additional step to map URL to your new blog, not covered here.
Posts -> Categories
Links Remove default links. Create your own, use your action URLS.
Comments Delete default comments.
Posts Remove default.
Create Your First Post Use a good title. Bring in multimedia. Format text. Add tags and categories. Publish.
