I. Company Profile
Company Name: Trez Computer Shop
Location: University Center, Km. 34, Old National Hi-Way, Brgy. San
Antonio, City of Binan, Laguna
Date of Establishment: March 29, 2009
Owner: Gerry Atencio Ortenero
Capital: P 500,000
Internet Service Provider: Globe (P 2,500 per month)
Trez Computer Shop was established 4 years ago and started as a business
venture shared by Mr. Gerry Ortenero with his two friends. He then detached
from them to flourish the business he started with. The idea of a carinderia
entranced him at first, but he later on realized that a computer shop is much
more profitable than food services since the business site is near a university and
student life requires a lot of research. Thus, the venture started since then and
still operates up to the present day.

IV. Introduction
Local Area Network, as its name implies, is a data communication network
limited in a geographic scope. It provides file exchange, access to application
programs and many other networking capabilities through a shared number of
computers, printers, servers and other devices.
There are three typical LAN topologies and they are as follows: Bus, Ring and
Star. However, the most commonly used is Star topology because of its many
advantages such as high speed performance since each computer has its own
cable. On the other hand, networking service will stop once the central device
encounters a problem.
LAN Architecture is the overall design of the LAN, which comprises the various
devices used to enable network sharing. These includes the hubs, routers,
switches, etc.
V. Problems
 Entangled Wirings
 No CPU Cases
 Limited Space
 Slow Internet Connection
VI. Objectives
 Organize cables through proper arrangement
 Produce a router with a higher mbps than the previous one
installed in the computer shop
 Provide secured CPU Cases to prevent thieves from stealing
hardware components/parts

XI. Design Justification
A. Type of LAN Architecture Used
The topology that is used by Trez Computer Shop was star topology. As
compared to Bus topology, it gives far much better performance; signals don’t
necessarily get transmitted to all the workstations. A sent signal reaches the
intended destination after passing through no more than 3-4 devices and 2-3
links. Performance of the network is dependent on the capacity of central hub.
It is easy to connect new nodes or devices. In star topology, new nodes can be
added easily without affecting rest of the network. Similarly components can also
be removed easily.
Finally, it is a centralized management. It helps in monitoring the network. Failure
of one node or link doesn’t affect the rest of network. At the same time, it’s easy
to detect the failure and troubleshoot it.
B. Topology
A star topology is a topology for a Local Area Network in which all nodes are
individually connected to a central connection point, like a hub or a switch. A star
takes more cable than bus or ring, but the benefit is that if a cable fails, only one
node will be brought down. Each workstation is connected by its own cable
directly to the server.
The star topology reduces the damage caused by line failure by connecting all of
the systems to a central node. When applied to a bus-based network, this central
hub rebroadcasts all transmissions received from any peripheral node to all
peripheral nodes on the network, sometimes including the originating node. All
peripheral nodes may communicate with all others by transmitting and receiving
from, the central node only. The failure of a transmission line linking any
peripheral node to the central node will result in the isolation of that peripheral
node from all others, but the rest of the systems will be unaffected.
C. Network Media
UTP or Unshielded Twisted Pair is a type of cable used in networks. It is
inexpensive and creates effective communication between devices and is the
most commonly used cable used in computer networking.
A Hub is a common connection point for devices in a network. Hubs are commonly
used to connect segments of a LAN. A hub contains multiple ports. When
a packet arrives at one port, it is copied to the other ports so that all segments of
the LAN can see all packets.
D. File Server
A file server is a computer responsible for the central storage and management
of data files so that other computers on the same network can access the files.
The term server highlights the role of the machine in the client–server scheme,
where the clients are the workstations using the storage. A file server is not
intended to perform computational tasks, and does not run programs on behalf of
its clients. It is designed primarily to enable the storage and retrieval of data while
the computation is carried out by the workstations.

Conclusion
I therefore conclude that having a good network can build up a strong
connection. A star topology is the most efficient topology so many workstation
use it. A workstation can be seen anywhere nowadays. In office, work, cashier
and computer shops so being an IT, we must be fully aware of this stuffs.
We must be aware of all the components of our computer so we can use them
properly and according to their specifications. We must also install proper driver
for each device used

  • 3. I. Company Profile Company Name: Trez Computer Shop Location: University Center, Km. 34, Old National Hi-Way, Brgy. San Antonio, City of Binan, Laguna Date of Establishment: March 29, 2009 Owner: Gerry Atencio Ortenero Capital: P 500,000 Internet Service Provider: Globe (P 2,500 per month) Trez Computer Shop was established 4 years ago and started as a business venture shared by Mr. Gerry Ortenero with his two friends. He then detached from them to flourish the business he started with. The idea of a carinderia entranced him at first, but he later on realized that a computer shop is much more profitable than food services since the business site is near a university and student life requires a lot of research. Thus, the venture started since then and still operates up to the present day. II. Miniature Design
  • 6. IV. Introduction Local Area Network, as its name implies, is a data communication network limited in a geographic scope. It provides file exchange, access to application programs and many other networking capabilities through a shared number of computers, printers, servers and other devices. There are three typical LAN topologies and they are as follows: Bus, Ring and Star. However, the most commonly used is Star topology because of its many advantages such as high speed performance since each computer has its own cable. On the other hand, networking service will stop once the central device encounters a problem. LAN Architecture is the overall design of the LAN, which comprises the various devices used to enable network sharing. These includes the hubs, routers, switches, etc. V. Problems  Entangled Wirings  No CPU Cases  Limited Space  Slow Internet Connection VI. Objectives  Organize cables through proper arrangement  Produce a router with a higher mbps than the previous one installed in the computer shop  Provide secured CPU Cases to prevent thieves from stealing hardware components/parts

  • 22. X. Summary of Floor Plan Layout Trez Computer Shop Quantity Number of Workstation 13 Number of Hub 2 Number of Files server 1 Number of Printer 1 Other devices 0 Total 17 XI. Design Justification A. Type of LAN Architecture Used The topology that is used by Trez Computer Shop was star topology. As compared to Bus topology, it gives far much better performance; signals don’t necessarily get transmitted to all the workstations. A sent signal reaches the intended destination after passing through no more than 3-4 devices and 2-3 links. Performance of the network is dependent on the capacity of central hub. It is easy to connect new nodes or devices. In star topology, new nodes can be added easily without affecting rest of the network. Similarly components can also be removed easily. Finally, it is a centralized management. It helps in monitoring the network. Failure of one node or link doesn’t affect the rest of network. At the same time, it’s easy to detect the failure and troubleshoot it.
  • 23. B. Topology A star topology is a topology for a Local Area Network in which all nodes are individually connected to a central connection point, like a hub or a switch. A star takes more cable than bus or ring, but the benefit is that if a cable fails, only one node will be brought down. Each workstation is connected by its own cable directly to the server. The star topology reduces the damage caused by line failure by connecting all of the systems to a central node. When applied to a bus-based network, this central hub rebroadcasts all transmissions received from any peripheral node to all peripheral nodes on the network, sometimes including the originating node. All peripheral nodes may communicate with all others by transmitting and receiving from, the central node only. The failure of a transmission line linking any peripheral node to the central node will result in the isolation of that peripheral node from all others, but the rest of the systems will be unaffected. C. Network Media UTP or Unshielded Twisted Pair is a type of cable used in networks. It is inexpensive and creates effective communication between devices and is the most commonly used cable used in computer networking. A Hub is a common connection point for devices in a network. Hubs are commonly used to connect segments of a LAN. A hub contains multiple ports. When a packet arrives at one port, it is copied to the other ports so that all segments of the LAN can see all packets. D. File Server A file server is a computer responsible for the central storage and management of data files so that other computers on the same network can access the files. The term server highlights the role of the machine in the client–server scheme, where the clients are the workstations using the storage. A file server is not intended to perform computational tasks, and does not run programs on behalf of its clients. It is designed primarily to enable the storage and retrieval of data while the computation is carried out by the workstations.

A star topology is the most efficient topology so many workstation use it. A workstation can be seen anywhere nowadays. In office, work, cashier and computer shops so being an IT, we must be fully aware of this stuffs. We must be aware of all the components of our computer so we can use them properly and according to their specifications. We must also install proper driver for each device used Definition of Terminologies Local Area Networks (LAN) – provides network communication such as file exchange between file server and workstations. Network Media – devices used in the study that enables connectivity. Examples are utp, hub, etc. LAN Architecture – design of the Trez Computer Shop. Client/Workstation – computers connected to the file server. Server - connects to workstations and enables Local Area Network Connection. Hub – central device to enable LAN between server and workstations. Router – enables wireless internet connection to hubs and to workstation.
