Bob Dylan was born in 1941 in Minnesota and raised in a Jewish household. He moved to New York in 1961 to pursue music, performing in folk clubs in Greenwich Village and getting signed by Columbia Records. Over his career he wrote over 50 albums and used his music to comment on social and political issues, helping bring awareness to injustices like the wrongful imprisonment of boxer Rubin "Hurricane" Carter.
