Students Speak Out on Benefits of Technology
Student Speak Out More than half of the students in class cited that technology makes learning easier and more fun as number one. Being able to keep up with the job skills necessary for their future. Technology brings learning to life, there is no more advanced learning software, and better research capabilities with the internet.
Kids understand that their future is technology. According to James Morris “Our students are entering a world in which 60% of the jobs will require technological competency-a world in which they must continue to update their occupational and technological skills in order to be successful.”
Quote from the Author According to Melissa Johnston, “I’ve never been a proponent of the theory that education should be a dog and pony show aimed at keeping students entertained and amused every second of the class period. However, technology integration, like other good teaching techniques, actively engages students in the learning process.”
Personal Reflection Taking advantage of the capacity of technology is a great way to enhance and engage future students in active learning. Therefore, classrooms should be utilizing the technology for future use of the students.
Eight Keys to Success
Quote According to Fullan a renowned expert in change theory, stated that “educational change depends on what teachers do and think--it’s as simple and complex as that.”
The eight keys to success for teachers are: FEAR of change TRAINING in basics PERSONAL use TEACHING models LEARNING based CLIMATE MOTIVATION SUPPORT
Keys to Success Teachers that overcome their fears, concerns, and anxiety is crucial to succeed. Training must provide teachers with knowledge of the very basics of computer use. Personal use of technology such as Microsoft Office allow teachers to explore and then integrate technology into their classroom.
Keys to success continued… Teaching models using technology as a tool in the classroom to help students achieve must be provided. Learning should drive the use of technology in the school. A climate must be created that allows teachers to experiment without fear of failure.
Keys to Success continued… Motivation to endure the frustration of the change process. Teachers need support to be effective in using technology in their classroom.
Personal Reflection The eight keys to success that allow teachers to successfully integrate technology into the curriculum are basic but rather hard to accomplish. They require planning and commitment, as well as time and money but they are great to have in mind and put into practice for the future use of my future students .
Effects of Technology on Teaching and Learning
Student Outcomes Increases performance when interactivity is prominent. Increases opportunities for interactivity with instructional programs. Is more effective with multiple technologies (video, computer, telecommunications etc). Improves attitude and confidence--especially for ‘at risk’ students.
Student Outcomes continued… Provides instructional opportunities otherwise not available. Can increase opportunities for student-constructed learning. Increases student collaboration on projects.
Student Outcomes continued… Increases mastery of vocational and work force skills. Helps prepare students for work when emphasized as a problem solving tool. Significantly improves student problem solving skills.
Student Outcomes continued… Improves writing skills and attitudes about writing. Improves writing skills as a result of using telecommunications. Increases the preparation of students for most careers and vocations.
Educator outcomes Increased emphasis on individualized instruction. More time engaged by teachers advising students. Increased interest in teaching. Interest in experimenting with emerging technology.
Educator Outcome continued… Increased administrator and teacher productivity. Increased planning and collaboration with colleagues. Rethinking and revision of curriculum and instructional strategies.
Educator Outcomes continued… Greater participation in school and district restructuring efforts. Increased teacher and administrator communication with parents. Increased communications among teachers.
Personal Reflection The effects of technology not only increase student performance but they also prepare teachers and allows teachers to engage students in educational experiences.
Conclusion The use of technology in a classroom setting not only benefits teachers and students but it also has great effects; it prepares students for the future. It requires planning and commitment, time and money but the effects are what makes the use of technology in a classroom setting a good one.
