CHANGE IS URGENT!!!
- Matthew Perkins
- Orange High School
SOCRATES ONCE SAID…
“The secret of
change is to focus
all of your energy
not on fighting the
old, but building
the new.”
LeFevre, M
THAT CURRENT NEW CHANGE IS TECHNOLOGY
- Amazon sells more ebooks than printed books
- People view 15 billion online videos every month
- More than 4 billion cell phones are in use everyday!
HOW DOES TECHNOLOGY HELP US IN SCHOOL?
ACCORDING TO INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR TECHNOLOGY
IN EDUCATION IN THE “THE INDELIBLE LINK”
“The research findings presented in this brief demonstrate that
TECHNOLOGY is being effectively integrated into teaching and learning
and is having a positive impact on increasing student achievement
through test scores and the acquisition of 21st century skills. This research
presents convincing evidence that technology integration in teaching and
learning is having a strong positive effect on student achievement across
all segments of K–12 students, is helping to advance equity and access in
historically high-need schools and communities, and is fortifying today’s
generation with a foundation of technology-based skills that fit within the
larger picture of global competitiveness.”
A SURVEY TAKEN BY PBS LEARNING CONCLUDED
• 74% of teachers say technology motivates students
• 74% of teachers say technology enables them to
reinforce and expand content
• 69% of teachers say that, “they can do much more than
ever before,” with their students
REASONS WHY IT MIGHT BE SCARY TO USE TECHNOLOGY?
ACCORDING TO JUDITH ZIMMERMAN IN
“WHY SOME TEACHERS RESIST CHANGE AND
WHAT PRINCIPALS CAN DO ABOUT IT.”
• Previously failed attempts to use technology in the
classroom
• Why change my teaching method if it works?
• Unsure of your own skill ability using technology
DON’T LET THESE BE THE REASONS NOT TO TRY SOMETHING NEW
BECAUSE, TECHNOLOGY CAN OPEN YOUR WORLD!
Technology enables our students to
explore their creativity!
WHAT IF WE DIDN’T TRY SOMETHING NEW?
• Would we have landed on the moon?
• Would we have electricity?
• Would we have Technology?
REASONS WHY WE MUST CHANGE
The World is becoming
a digital aged place.
Sooner or later, the
lack of learning
technology will catch
up to you.
THIS IS HOW WE ARE GOING TO DO IT!
STEP 1: ELECT SCHOOL LEADERS
• With these leaders, we will build
trust. “…leaders of great
organizations hold themselves
accountable when problems arise
and yet are quick to share credit
with others when they experience
success.” Zimmerman
STEP 2: CREATE A SHARED VISION AT ORANGE HIGH SCHOOL
• We will promote every aspect into
positive reinforcement about
technology and the benefits of
effectively using technology in the
classroom
STEP 3: PEER SUPPORT
• We will promote professional development and
peer support in anyway we can.
SHORT TERM GOALS
• Every student will have a google classroom account within the first
month of school
• Every teacher must attend two Professional Development meetings
with one of our school leaders. (Max class size for Professional
Development 5). This will be done in the first two months of school.
• Identify other teachers who are having success integrating
technology in the classroom to grow our shared vision.
• Peer support to encourage the use of technology
AFTER THE FIRST TWO MONTHS…
We will have a staff meeting with
the school leaders to discuss
benefits, drawbacks, etc.
Higher
Test
Scores
Preparing
Students for
a Technology
Based World
Closing
the
Education
Gap
LONG TERM GOALS
THANK YOU AND REMEMBER,
Technology allows our students to be creative!
