Key Areas We have Improved On
 Camera skills
 Camera positioning/angles used
 Sound
 Planning
 Storyboarding
 Editing
Mistakes we made on the Preliminary
and how we Avoided on our Main Piece
 One of the main areas we failed on during the first
task was lighting. Although the theme of the
preliminary task was meant to be a scary setting and
storyline, when it came to filming we realised we
taken it too far to the point most of the shots were
too dark and was unable to see some parts of the
footage. The images below support my point made.
 Another area is planning. When we
did the preliminary task we didn’t
keep to the storyboard a great deal
and decided to almost make it up as
we went along. On our main piece,
we really kept to the storyboard. If
we decided on set that another
angel or different approach might
look better, we filmed the original
idea and the new idea and then
decided at the editing stage which
one to use to make sure we got the
best possible shot. For example the
panning shot used shown to the
right wasn’t in the original
storyboard. We decided to do this as
our idea of the characters walking
toward the camera from the opposite
side of the road, but this didn’t look
as good as we thought. A quick
decision on set made a better effect
overall.
Improved Editing Techniques
Our editing skills have massively improved from the
preliminary. We have gained better experience in smoother
cuts and cutting down shots. On the first task, the cuts
between shots were very snappy and wasn’t smooth. Also,
we learnt how to use titles and move them along with the
footage to create a smooth input. Lastly, we introduced
sound into our film which we didn’t do with our preliminary.
Our film has no dialog and relies heavily on the effect of
soundtracks which we had to learn how to include them.
