Brownfields are real properties; the
expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which
may be complicated by the presence or
potential presence of a hazardous
substance, pollutant, or contaminant.
Why Invest in
Brownfields?
Cleaning up and reinvesting in these
properties protects the environment, reduces
blight, and takes development pressures off
green spaces and working lands.

Buildable land with infrastructure and
entitlements in urban areas is in short
supply. Located in highly desirable urban
infill areas, brownfields are far cheaper than
comparable non-polluted properties

It is my belief that a successful Brownfield
redevelopment program is a significant part
of governing in an urban setting. We are in
an era where 80 percent of the people in our
county live in the cities and towns.

Our challenge then, is to provide space for
ourselves and our children to experience
the green earth in an urban setting; and
aggressively seek the ways and means to
build our future with sensitivity to past
