Differences between mixtures & compunds
Mixtures
• Consists of two or more elements
or compounds or both which are
not chemically combined.
• It may heterogeneous or
homogenous.
• The individual components can
be separated by physical means.
• Usually no energy takes place
during formation of mixture.
• Its components may be present in
it in varying proportions.
Compounds
• Consists of two or more elements
combined by chemical bonding.
• A compound is always
homogenous.
• The components cannot be
broken by physical means , only
by chemical means.
• During formation of compound it
is always accompanied by energy
like liberation of heat etc.
• Its components must be present
in a definite proportion by mass.
