This document summarizes various pupillary reaction disorders:
1) Hippus is characterized by large rhythmic dilatation and constriction of the pupils independently of light stimulation and is seen in multiple sclerosis.
2) Marcus Gunn pupil/RAPD is seen with unilateral optic nerve lesions and is diagnosed by a smaller constriction of the affected eye's pupil when light is shone in each eye.
3) Adie's pupil/tonic pupil appears as a dilated but nonreactive pupil and can result from viral infections or injuries affecting the ciliary ganglion; it is often unilateral but bilateral cases are associated with syphilis or sarcoidosis.
