In what way do you think the internet and online networks can help your work? I work as part of a very small team, and for some projects I am the only person delivering - it can mean that I feel isolated and that there is no-one to turn to for ideas and support - it's useful to know where to find this. up to date info on everything local and national publicity contact with YP legislation changes By having links to useful websites, resources and information Relied upon - already very heavily - as primary source of up to date information on new programmes, policy change, events and services. Sharing information and good practice. to speed up information gathering Information sharing and making information accesible to all people. Everyway. digital community Saves time on phone
In what way do you think the internet and online networks can help your work? Speeds up searching for things such as maps. A good resource for information at short notice but not necessarily completely reliable. AS a business directory Enable better information giving and more appropriate signposting; enable better advice giving By providing quickly accessible data. By providing fora where information can be exchanged. Providing contacts in different organisations Information at your fingertips (not reliant on other people faster cheaper than any other form of communication including face to face time saving cascade information easily learn about new information easily and at time to suit and location to suit easy access to up to date info provide access to wide range of information
Problems with using the web When using interview room I don't always have access to net, so can be difficult to point people in the direction of websites that can help them. I generally have to spend time after an advice session sending e-mails with links to the people I've spoken to. I use a dongle and a laptop sometimes, but cannot always get a reliable connection. sometimes pages are out of date with more specialist sites need good computers/software to run high graphics sites lack of resources to give me the hours necessary to explore social media, etc accessing the internet away from office space Bandwidth.. Very high usage rates with so many colleagues accessing system simultaneously, can slow things down rather too much. Not having enough time to do it. not knowing what I can do on it.
Problems with using the web It is hard to decipher if all of the information is trustworthy. Well sometimes you don’t know where the information came from or who is offering the information. And so you will need to search for fact before concluding. Fact from a reliable source site. too many pages System being down - access to technology for client group. Not always reliable and not particularly encouraged by employer as they are suspicious of misuse Can also be time consuming to find data slowness of my machine or problems with internet connections people not understanding how to use yahoo groups people not using subject headings properly thereby wasting your time opening unncessary emails too much information available , workers need to be able to verify/ have list of trusted sources, and need to develop the skills to do that accessing useful, relevant and reliable information
What is the best thing the Frontliners online network could offer you? Information about training and courses available locally that would be of interest to our clients, opportunities to network not sure yet - it's early days! Only recently joined Having not used it Im not sure I am not sure about this question. I guess meeting together is good to earn and grow. fantastic resource but somebody's got to champion it! Directory of providers. Ability to get information and advice/signposting from other workers; gather ideas for events; get feedback on services; get introduced to people who I need to network with Exchange of ideas. Support, Partnership working. Contacts partnership working a quick jump to local projects and workers links with other people working in same sort of area
What do you think could improve the Frontliners online network? Perhaps there could be a section to inform us of local initiatives, projects, courses etc. that we could refer clients to. It would be good to have links to information, contacts etc. to make it easy to link with other local providers more news, activity on the site Knowing more about it, how it functions what the aims of having it are. Whatever will make information easily accessible and relevant. Include the updates and general monitoring in someone's job spec!!! Needs someone to 'own it' Having an easier 'forum' for discussion - be a bit less 'clunky' More information about what it is and its aims. better subject headings about the messages users being able to tag/lable themselves/their profiles from their organisations and to be able to attach the org's websites
How could Brighton & Hove Learning Partnership could you improve the use of the internet in your work? encourage professionals to use it more often keep a directory of all opportunities online, up to date funding for training in social media and management of social media Helping to develop links to information that is not necessarily geared toward work or training. Health and wellbeing are factors which are important to establish with a lot of the clients I work with and there is access to very little information about this online. Establish an on-line information hub for all resources within the City By putting a lot of resources and information on trainings that will develop our profession. Information about Twitter etc. Partnering up with the various smaller projects within the city, albeit health or social care related projects. Do you have a database of trusted sites. a bit of hand holding to show people the value of it Don't know Not sure absolutely - such a lot to learn and know about give up the course search on the BHLP website, teach workers how to access college sites directly instead
