concept.

Introduction to Frozen
• Frozen is a 2013 3D computer animated American
film. It is the 53rd film in the Walt Disney Animated
classics series. Its is the highest grossing animated
film of all time. It was directed by Chris Buck and
Jennifer Lee. Lee is the first female director of a Walt
Disney animated film.
Frozen - Analysis
• As we watch the opening sequence you will need to analyse and take
notes on your specific area (Genre/Narrative/Representation/Audience/Industry).
• Try to apply the key terms you just found
• Use the hand out and questions to help you but please feel free to add
your own points and any other terms you can think of!

All of you will make observations and suggest links with key
concept
Most of you will apply key terminology
Some may be able to apply a media theory

Genre:
Identifying genre/s and taking notes on the
conventions present in the opening sequence.
Narrative:
• Are there any narrative devices present, e.g.
flashbacks, multi-stranded narratives?
• What narrative theories can you apply?
Representation:
• What groups are portrayed in Frozen?
• How have they been represented?
• How has this representation been constructed?
Audience:
• Who is the target audience? How have they
been attracted?
• How might different audiences react?
• How have they been positioned?
• What audience theories can you apply?
Industry:
• What has been included in this film to help
generate success?
• This film is rated PG – what can you observe to
justify this rating?
• How global might this film have become?
As you
Research
• You have 15 minutes to research your area even
further – finding out as much as you can about
Frozen.
• Use the questions in Box B to help guide your
research but again find out as much as you can.
Don’t limit yourself to the questions on the
sheet! Nothing is irrelevant!

Plenary
In your pairs/groups combine your observations and research and
write a paragraph (or equivalent) summing up your findings.
Ensure you use examples from the extract where possible.
When this has been completed - email to the rest of the class.
Each of you should produce and save a document with the five
paragraphs included – entitled Frozen Revision.
Extension: Try to consider how the concepts you have been
studying today link with each other – what links can you make
with other concepts? Add these to your notes.
