The NJROTC program began in 1966 and aims to instill citizenship, service, responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment in students. The Naval Service Training Command administers the program and sets goals like promoting patriotism, developing leadership skills, and providing information about military service careers. Schools must maintain a minimum enrollment of 100 students or 10% of their total enrollment in NJROTC. Instructors must be certified and hired by the school principal. The Navy provides textbooks, uniforms, and materials for the program.
