10 Gigabit Ethernet
Cabling
― 10G SFP+ Transceiver
What Is 10 Gigabit
10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GE, 10GbE, or 10
GigE) is a group of computer networking
technologies for transmitting Ethernet
frames at a rate of 10 gigabits per second
(10×109 or 10 billion bits per second). It
was first defined by the IEEE 802.3ae-2002
standard.
Why 10 Gigabit Today
• Easy, straightforward migration to higher performance levels
without disruption,
• Lower cost of ownership vs. current alternative technologies –
including both acquisition and support costs
• Familiar management tools and common skills base
• Ability to support new applications and data types
• Flexibility in network design
• Multiple vendor sourcing and proven interoperability

XENPAK X2
XFP
10GbE transceivers
• the first 10GbE pluggable
transceivers on the market
to support the 802.3ae
standard transmission
optics. Presents SC
connectors
• the smaller brother of
the XENPAK pluggable
transceivers, the X2
form factor is about 2/3
the size of the XENPAK.
Presents SC connectors
• a 10GbE optics using the
same physical form factor as
a gigabit SFP. Because of
this, many of the small SFP+
based 10GbE switches use
1G/10G ports, giving an
added degree of flexibility.
Presents LC connectors.
• the newest pluggable
transceiver on the market,
XFP is the closest in size
to the SFP pluggable
transceiver now used for
gigabit technology.SFP+
SFP+ Transceivers
SFP+ transceiver are multi-purpose optical modules for
10Gbit/s data transmission applications at 850nm, 1310nm,
1550nm, CWDM or DWDM wavelengths. The transceivers
are ideally suited for datacom and storage area network
applications based on the IEEE 802.3ae and Fibre Channel
standards.
• Compliant to SFP+ Electrical MSA SFF-8431
• Compliant to SFP+ Mechanical MSA SFF-8432
• Multi-rate of up to 11.3Gb/s
• 10G Ethernet compliance
• Transmission distance up to 80km (G.652 SM fiber)
• Low power consumption (<1.5W)
• 0°C to +70°C case operating temperature range
• Laser Class 1 IEC / CDRH compliant
• RoHS 6/6 compliant
• Compliant with product safety standards
DWDM SFP+ 10G Transceivers
The DWDM SFP+ has a specific tuned laser with a pre-
defined “color” which is defined in the DWDM ITU grid.
The 100GHz C-Band is the mostly used in the telecom
industry. The spacing between the channels is 0.8nm
and it’s around 1550nm. The colors or wavelength are
named in channels and channel 17 to 61 is commonly
used. The 50GHz with 0.4nm spacing and other
spectrum bands can be provided by us as well.
DWDM Wavelengths
Dense wavelength division multiplexing
(DWDM) refers originally to optical signals
multiplexed within the 1550nm band so as to
leverage the capabilities (and cost) of erbium
doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs), which are
effective for wavelengths between
approximately 1525–1565nm (C band), or
1570–1610nm (L band).
