East Cobb Middle School Empowering Kids to Be The Change Challenge Day  January 6-9, 2009
What is Challenge Day? A nationally recognized diversity training program that has been launched in schools across the country originally created to address the escalation of alienation and violence in schools The founders believe that separation, isolation and loneliness are the root causes of a wide range of societal and workplace issues in school situations, that manifests itself through cliques and popularity Throughout this day-long event, participants are guided through a series of experiential exercises that will help them: learn how to break down the walls of separation create new levels of respect and communication with their peers develop the skills that empower students to “Be the Change” Powerful exercises include : “ If you really knew me, you’d know __________________” Crossing the Line calls on participants to step forward and cross the line if they have experienced different events and demonstrates the common experiences we have as human beings; that we have more things in common than we’re aware of.
About the Program a transformational day of leadership, power and possibilities that can change the way people view and relate to one another addresses the issues of violence, teasing, social oppression, racism, harassment, conflict management, suicide, peer pressure, alcohol and drugs facilitated by professional leaders from the Challenge Day organization, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in California
