This document describes a project that used design interventions to inspire new maker communities in libraries in Aarhus, Denmark. The project team worked with local libraries and a hacker lab to bridge specialized hobby communities and everyday library users. They held a month-long workshop at the main city library where the hacker lab lived in and demonstrated merging practical and academic knowledge. The goal was to empower communities and make libraries hubs for makers through playful engagement beyond cultural conventions.

- 4. The project. We experiment with using various design interventions to bridge users from a specialized hobby community (hacking electronics) and everyday users of the public library in order to inspire new and unsuspected maker activities and communities.
- 5. The design process. In our case the local hacker lab, Open Space Aarhus, took seat and made a month long workshop at the city’s main library – literally living out and by example producing the vision of merging practice based, technical and academic based knowledge.
