2+2 Teaching Academy
Three Fold Strategy
Collaboration
Communication
Technology
Collaboration
 WSU faculty, alumni clients, and administrators
would identify other faculty at USU and WSU to
collaborate with
 USU would identify other prospective faculty from
their college to collaborate with
Why would we collaborate?
 Garner information from all involved what the
critical learning objectives should be for the 2+2
program
 Create discussion about what goals and priorities
should be
 Develop alliance across campuses and between
faculty
 Share ideas and brain storming abilities
Communication
 Schedule regular meeting times once per week
between WSU and USU faculty
 Faculty at each site will garner information from
their students and other faculty regarding their input
for learning objectives
 Develop benchmarks based on communicated ideas
 Develop projections of terminal objectives for
implementation of agreed upon learning objectives
Why would we communicate?
 To develop learning objectives that faculty from both
campuses can agree upon
 To garner information from both campuses that are
in alignment with their colleges’ learning objectives
 To provide a format of input from all interested
faculty, administrators, and interested alumni
 Mostly to set the stage for collaborative efforts
between colleges and faculty to work synergistically
together, which in turn will encourage future
collaborative efforts
O.K., collaboration & communication!
How do we implement?
 Collaboration
So, how do we make the right connections? How do we
initiate these connections? What process will we use
that’s effective and least costly?
 Communication
Let’s use technology
 Each weekly meeting between both campuses will be
conducted via videoconferencing in Wegner 268,
Bustad 110k, or using the Bustad mobile unit
 Regularly scheduled meetings between faculty with
specializations with other faculty with “like
specializations” will also meet via videoconferencing,
CMA desktop, Elluminate, or Tegrity
Let’s use technology
 Benchmarks and projections will be correlated and
developed for recorded DVD meetings
 List serves will be sent out for all faculty involved in
the development of the learning objectives for 2+2s
 A link will be provided with an e-mail address for
the 2+2 program for questions needing replies
 An Access database will be developed on the 2+2
site learning objectives for faculty to input
information for correlation/tracking/development
Let’s use technology
 An analysis of learning objectives will be developed
from the d-base material
 Regular correspondence will be sent via e-mail
So, how will this help our 2+2 program?
 Create alliances between campuses
 Organized structure of learning objectives parallel to
each colleges’ own learning objectives
 Participation of all parties creating vested interest
and collegiality of all those involved
 Using technology to enhance collaboration and
communication while cutting cost
 Paving the way for other collaborative efforts
Other ways to meet
After faculty from both campuses develop ties with one
another and meet regularly through
videoconferencing, CMA desktop, Elluminate, and
Tegrity, they will each send three-five representatives
once per semester to the other campus for a period of
three days. Each campus will provide tours and
meetings with other CVM faculty members and
students while the visiting party provides discussion
topics with faculty and students in their area of
expertise; many of which will be discussed and
planned before hand.

Editor's Notes

  • #2: In an effort to develop systematic learning objectives between Washington State University and Utah State University that are in alignment with both colleges’ principal learning objectives, I propose the following collaborative efforts be conducted by faculty, alumni, and administrators. First, collaborative efforts on the part of each WSU faculty and it’s representatives must coordinate to identify their publics with USU. So, how do we intend to do this?
  • #3: We are going to use a three-fold strategy through collaboration, communication, and through the use of cutting-edge technology. And, how will we implement this process?
  • #4: I understand that some of our CVM faculty are currently instructing classes to Utah State University. With that in mind, they have already formed alliances with other faculty, which is a great beginning for future collaboration. Our instructors and administrators who have developed the 2+2 contract with USU in May of this year have also formed associations with USU faculty and administrators, which in turn has created awareness with USU to identify individuals of interest to work together. So, why would we want to collaborate?
  • #5: To obtain information gathering and input from all sources will be intregal in forming learning objectives for the 2+2 program. We want to be able to brain storm, come up with relevant ideas that are beneficial for student learning that are creative and enhance critical thinking. We want to form an association together that will be long-lasting that will assist in creating well-prepared students. O.K., we’ve talked about collaboration. So, how does communication benefit the three-fold strategy?
  • #6: The dictionary’s definition of communication is: “It is the activity of conveying meaningful information. Communication requires a sender, a message, and an intended recipient.” O.K.? We are going to communicate on a regular basis to develop the 2+2 learning objectives. We will determine what sort of out-comes and how we will develop terminal objectives to meet those out-comes. So, what’s the purpose of communicating between WSU and USU?
  • #7: We want to find objectives that everyone agrees upon. Not only that, we want to be inclusive providing others the benefit of being heard. We want to evaluate all the possibilities. And, the biggest benefit of all is when we communicate, we also form associations with others. Alright, we’ve now established that we must collaborate with one another by communicating regularly. So, how do we intend to follow-through?
  • #8: What is a communication, collaboration method that will reach all those involved that is easy and cost effective; particularly in these difficult economic times?
  • #9: We will use cutting-edge technology through the use of videoconferencing. CVM has two videoconferencing rooms with a portable videoconferencing unit and work closely with Cheryl Dhein to implement the use of technology. I will work with Cheryl to have all WSU CVM faculty set-up with I-cams so that they can communicate with their counterparts at USU apart from the regularly scheduled weekly meetings. How will technology enhance our communication and collaboration efforts further?
  • #10: Faculty from both universities will set-up benchmarks during the regular weekly meetings. I will work with Cheryl to develop a list serve for all to send information so everyone is informed. I will also work with Cheryl to set-up a data base system wherein faculty can respond quickly and efficiently to benchmarks, objectives, and other topics that are discussed for the development of learning objectives. This will be any easy and efficient way for assessment.
  • #11: Through the use of technology we can make sure that everyone remains in-the-loop and that data is formulated as we go along.
  • #12: Through the use of the three-fold method for developing learning objectives, we will develop them systematically with our own and with Utah State University forging the way for future collaboration with them and perhaps others. So, once we’ve formed these types of ties, where do we go from there?
  • #13: I propose that once per semester (at least for the first two years) 3-5 faculty from one university visit the other and then reciprocate the following semester. The visiting university will have already developed a plan and will become special speakers within veterinary classes while the hosting college will provide tours, housing, food, flight, interaction with other faculty and students, and collaborative efforts with others such as alumni. Our collaborative efforts together will become rich in instruction, direction, and forming ties with our 2+2 universities. Thank you very much.
