The 3GPP SA2 group is studying the architecture for next-generation mobile networks, specifically 5G, with the aim of establishing a system framework that accommodates diverse use cases. This report summarizes the study items and updates from the most recent SA2 meeting in July 2016, outlining two approaches: top-down, which identifies overall architecture, and bottom-up, which focuses on specific key issues and their architectural solutions. Key issues like network slicing, QoS, and session management are identified to guide the development of the next-gen network systems.
