Nanotechnology involves manipulating materials at the nano scale and is being applied in fields like medicine, computing and manufacturing. It allows investigation of nanoparticles which provide high surface area and efficient dispersibility. Electrospinning is used to deposit nanomaterials and produces thin fibers through an electrical field between a polymer solution and collector. Sputtering places substrates in a vacuum chamber to produce nanoparticles by applying a negative charge to a target material and depositing the particles as a thin film on the substrates. Nanotechnology is being used in medicine through implants containing nanostructures to promote acceptance by surrounding cells, and may help create molecular systems equivalent to living systems to replace non-functional organs.
